City Hall Council Chambers The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in Special Session on Monday, January 11, 2010. Council President Nathan Samuel called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M., and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilpersons Mike Smith, Ed Zastawny, Keith Fetz, Connie Sellers, Barbara Wilson, Ron Grooms, and Nathan Samuel. Also present were Mayor Tom Galligan, Council Attorney Greg Clark, and Deputy Clerk Treasurer Suzy Bass. Pepper Cooper presented part of a wellness program regarding gym proposals. YMCA - $5.00 off monthly fee with 99 people joining and $10.00 off per month if there are 100 or more persons contributing. Anytime fitness-10% off of fees regardless of how many people sign up. Clarksville has this agreement with them and only one person participates. LAC - If City contributes or offers payroll deduction, they are offering employee rates of $25.00 per person fee. Councilperson Smith said that this would only cover non-contract employees. Council President Samuel said that number of new additional police officer there will be ten additional (four hired by December 1) and the remaining six will be hired in 2011. The Mayor said that the City may not need to hire ten (10). The fire department will be hiring three (3) additional firefighters this year. Several have already been hired to cover annexation thus far. Councilperson Smith said that there is an opportunity to buy McCullough Fire department including the building and two (2) fire trucks. A lot of the equipment has been upgraded. He has spoken with their attorney and requested that the City be allowed to pay $1.00 for 2010 and the balance in 2011. The cost of the building and trucks would be $510,000.00 which was the appraisal. Councilperson Zastawny and Council President Samuel said that they would be in favor of approving the buying of the building and two (2) trucks. The motion was made by Councilperson Zastawny to support moving forward with the purchase the building and the two trucks, second by Councilperson Wilson passing on a vote of 7-0.
