HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-08-1994COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA AUGUST 8, 1994 The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in regular session in Council Chambers in the City-County Building~ Jeffersonville~ Indiana, at 4:30 P.M. on the 8th day of August, 1994. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr.~ with Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr, at the desk. Mayor Parker welcomed ali in attendance~ asking all those present to stand as Council President Steven Stemler gave the invocation. He then asked all those present to to the flag. The roi1 was called and Bill Wolpert, Andrew Williams III, and Robert L. Potter. ~oin him in the pledge of allegiance those present were Councilpersons Barbara Wilson~ Steven R. Stemler, Absent: Donna M. Frantz~ Peggy Knight Wilder. Mayor Parker presented the minutes of the meetings of July 2B~ 1994~ for consideration by the Council. Councilperson Potter made the motion to approve the minutes as presented~ seconded by Councilperson Williams and carried unanimously. Clerk and Treasurer Spencer presented the claim list for consideration by the Council. Following all discussion~ Councilperson 94-OR-B?, 85-0R-51 Mike Gillenwater Potter made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Councilperson Williams and carried unanimously. City Attorney Mike Gillenwater introduced Ordinance No An Ordinance Amending Certain Portions Of Ordinances No. and 89-0R-11 Of The City Of Jeffersonville. City Attorney and Building Commissioner Bill Gavin explained the Councilperson changes for this Ordinance. Following all Potter made the motion to suspend the seconded by Councilperson Williams, rules and pass 94-0R-27~ carried unanimously. Councilperson Potter made the motion to pass 94-0R-~? on all three readings~ seconded by Councilperson Williams, and carried unanimously. Mayor Parker presented Council President Stemler~s Secretary Briefing Report, he then Councilperson Wilson asked been set up~ Mayor Parker asked the Council if they had any reports, if any meetings on the Inter-City Road had said that he is having some planning session PAGE 2 AUGUST 8~ !99~ meetings~ transportation: For Councilperson Potter Safety this morning at the bid that the Ogden Corporation got $30,©00 per year and $90~000 up but nothing official. Mayor Parker said that with the Newspaper Bridge over the weekend with the elected officials in the State of Kentucky~ he hopes that this Council and the Citizens of support him as the Mayor through the Westend of coverage on the Mayor Parker Elder for a remarkable the weekend. Mayor Parker publicly thanked our Acting Police Chief Charles ~ob they did during the hostage situation over introduced four Scouts from Troop 2?0 who are working on a Merit Badge. General Comments: everyone about the Concert Councilperson Wilson wants to remind in the Park on Friday evenings there are only a couple left. Also Barbara wants to remind everyone about the Concert on Thursday for the Community House~ Inc. and The Villiages of Indiana~ Inc.. Administrative Assistant Donna Baird said that tickets are in the Mayor's Office for purchase. Council President Stemler reminded everyone to make personal contact and at 4:00 P.M. tomorrow at American Commercial Bardge Line for the First Business and Government Exchange, it promises to be real good, the Chamber of Commerce has endorced it and is working well with us on this. Steve said that about 25-30 businesses are signed up to be there. Mr. Clarence Keys asked why the Council Meetings aren't on the first and third Mondays any more? Council President Stemler addressed this question and said that because of sharing the meeting Jeffersonville will Bridge from coming downtown area more. and in not allowing a Jeff and decaying the PAGE 3 AUGUST 8, 1994 room and the budget meeting requirements has been the reason for the changes and he explained that in September, this ehould be going back to the way it was. Mr. Charles White stated that Jeffersonville Police are the "Best" and they are doing a marvelous job. He said that he went on vacation and when he came back the Police Chief retired and now will be the Assistant to the Parks Superintendent and he is questioning why they need an Assistant? Mayor Parker asked Parks Superintendent Donnie Poole to address this question. Donnie explained how many parks~ buildings, boat docks~ grass cuttings softball leagues~ he said that an Assistant Superintendent is needed to be in charge of all grounds and buildings. Mayor Parker said that we have the best Parks Department in the State.
