HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-29-2010MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MAY 19, 2010 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Growth Coordinator Lovan and Councilperson Wilson. Also present were: Police Chief Deeringer, Parks Director Manor, Building Commissioner Segraves, Assistant Police Chief Grimes, Safety Director Mongarella, WWTP Director Ashack, Executive Assistant Young, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, IT Director Hardy, Code Enforcement Officer Sellers, Sewer Office Manager Wright, City Attorney Wilder, Planning and Zoning Director Fogle, Personnel Director Calabro, City Engineer Crouch, Fire Chief Harrod, Emergency Planner Christian, Communications Director Thomas, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. ~.J OLD BUSINESS 322 THOMPSON LANE Attorney Jack Vissing appeared representing Jim and Wanda Parris who own the property at 322 Thompson Lane. Code Enforcement Officer Sellers reported to the Board that there are still tires, farm equipment and debris on this property. She said she is still getting complaints from Orchard Hills residents. Mayor Galligan said the city has tried to work with Mr. Parris but not enough progress has been made and a definite time frame needs to be made. Mr. Parris said he plans to relocate his building and mow the grass and that water on the property has been a problem. Mr. Parris said some of the tractors will be taken to another farm and the tires will be removed. After discussion Councilperson Wilson made the motion to allow Mr. Parris 30 days to clean up the property entirely, seconded by Growth Coordinator Lovan and carried unanimously. A hearing is scheduled for June 23, 2010 if not cleaned up. UNSAFE BUILDING/815 MAIN STREET Attorney Earl Mullins appeared on behalf of property owner Michael Gregory in regard to the unsafe building. Attorney Mullins said Mr. Gregory has contracted the electric and plumbing repairs and the window treatments have been made. He said it should be ready for rental in the next 30 days. Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to give Mr. Gregory 30 days • to get the property cleaned up, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. A hearing will be scheduled for June 23, 2010 if the property is not cleaned up. L_~ STREET CLOSURE Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve closing the South side from Pearl Street to Spring Street on Court Avenue from 6 pm to 11 pm on June 25~' and all day till 11 pm on June 26, 2010 for a Mini Italian Festival hosted by Adrienne and Company, seconded by Growth Coordinator Lovan and carried unanimously. NEW WASHINGTON HIGH SCHOOLBAND PERFORMANCE WARDER PARK A representative from New Washington High School asked permission to do a performance in Warder Park. It is free and open to the public. Mayor Galligan told her to let the Parks Department know what day and time this will be. CARNIVAL FOR BLISS HOUSE/JULY3 Dana Rainville asked permission to use the parking lot at Spring Street and Market St. for a carnival to raise money for the Bliss House. Mayor Galligan said that location can't be used and suggested Preservation Station instead. The lot will be blocked off the night before the event. DRUG TESTING POLICY Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to approve and adopt the City Drug Policy as presented, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. Attorney Wilder said the Council is reviewing part of the handbook regarding compensation. There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:15 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Wilson AT ST: _ CLERK SURER
