City Hall Council Conference Room The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in Special Session on Monday, June 7, 2010. Council President Nathan Samuel called the meeting to order at 5:40 P.M., and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilpersons Mike Smith, Ed Zastawny, Keith Fetz, Connie Sellers, Barbara Wilson, and Nathan Samuel. Councilperson Ron Grooms was absent. Also present were Council Attorney Greg Clark, and Chief Deputy Clerk Treasurer Suzy Bass. FOP President Joe Hubbard presented the Council with a presentation ou#litung the basic wage proposals for police officers far the year 2011. He said the 2011 base wage is currently set at $275.00 per officer. The FOP is asking fora 4% base raise from 2010. After discussion, Councilperson Zastawny asked if the FOP would be willing to change the longevity rate to a flat amount from a percentage now. President Hubbard said that he can't discuss that at this time because it is not up for negotiation, only the base pay. Councilperson Smith questioned the increase in pension cost. President Hubbard also presented the Council with a PC Incentive (attached) for fitness requirements. He said the YMCA would administer the fitness test. Councilperson Samuel said that he doesn't support for allowing crunches aver sit ups. President Hubbard said that he used the existing standards as a guide. Discussion was held on the wording of exempting officers from certain tests for medical reasons. Further discussion occurred. FOP representative Leo Blackwell told the Council that he knows of no other police department in the state with physical requirements as strict as Jeffersonville. The Council thanked President Hubbard for his presentation and said they would meet with Council members and set up a meeting in the next couple of weeks. President Hubbard reminded the Council that if there is no agreement by August 1, it will go to arbitration. ~ The meeting adjourned at 6:30 P.M.
