MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JUNE 16, 2010
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present
were: Growth Coordinator Lovan and Councilperson Wilson.
Also present were: Assistant Police Chief Grimes, City Attorney Wilder, Parks Director Manor,
Building Commissioner Segraves, Growth Coordinator Lovan, Fire Chief Harrod, Communications
Director Thomas, Street Commissioner Hosea, Sewer Office Manager Wright, Police Chief Deeringer,
IT Director Hardy, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Safety Director Mongarella, Animal Shelter
Director Wilder, Assistant Fire Chief Grant, Executive Assistant Young, Redevelopment Director
Wheatley, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
BANNER/COURT AVENUE
Peggy Whitaker with One Southern Indiana asked permission to hang a banner on Court
Avenue in August for the September 9, 2010 Southern Indiana Business Expo. Growth
Coordinator Lovan made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Councilperson
Wilson and carried unanimously.
WELLNESS AND PROPERTY CASUALTY CONTRACT
Insurance Agent Cooper asked the Board to approve a contract with Fit N Life, PLLC that
will include a component of Jeffersonville's Wellness Program. Payment for each personal
wellness profile is $85.00 and Fit N Life will be paid a minimum fee equaling 33 % of all
employees for the City. After some discussion, Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion
to approve the contract between the City of Jeffersonville and Fit N Life, seconded by
Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
JEFF ITALIAN FEST
Bernie Carducci gave an update on the annual Jeff Italian Fest that is scheduled for June 26,
2010 from 11 am to 9 pm. He thanked the City for all the support they have given to the
festival. He said local vendors will provide food and there will be Italian music and dance.
Lots of activities and door prizes are planned. Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion
to approve the Jeff Italian Fest on June 26, 2010, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and
carried unanimously.
SIGNS AND TRASH
Councilperson Wilson said someone called her with concerns about the "Welcome to Jeff'
signs at Exit 0 not being visible because the bushes are too high. She asked if the Street
Department could trim them back. Mayor Galligan said this would be no problem. She said
she has also had a call about trash in our city parks. She requested "No Littering" signs. The
Board decided to post "No Littering $500.00 Fine" signs.
JEFF FEST
Councilperson Wilson said everyone enjoyed Jeff Fest and she appreciates everyone's help in
making it a success. She said John Wilson appreciated the use of the generator also.
4H FAIR
ll~layor Galligan said a banner will be put up in July to promote the 4H Fair.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Councilperson Wilson made the
motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:50 a.m., seconded by Growth Coordinator Lovan and
carried unanimously.
