HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-05-2010MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA May 5, 2010 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Growth Coordinator Lovan and Councilperson Wilson. Also present were: Police Chief Deeringer, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Parks Director Manor, Building Commissioner Segraves, Street Commissioner Hosea, Assistant Police Chief Grimes, Safety Director Mongarella, Fire Chief Harrod, WWTP Director Ashack, City Engineer Crouch, City Attorney Wilder, Planning and Zoning Director Fogle, Personnel Director Calabro, ,Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Code Enforcement Officer Frey, Executive Assistant Young, IT Director Hardy, Communications Director Thomas, and Deputy Clerk Timberlake. Mayor Galligan announced that Growth Coordinator Rick Lovan would be the newly appointed. member of the Board of Public Works since City Engineer Miller had retired. Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to approve the payroll as presented and seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.. NEW BUSINESS Banner on Court Ave Tina Attig came before the Board to request to hang a "Salute Troops" banner across Court Avenue from May 20th -29th .The Board agreed to hang the banner as long as there isn't already a previous commitment with anyone else to also hang a banner at that location. Pony Rides in City Park Doddie Ellis came before the Board to ask permission to have pony rides at her birthday party at Lansing Park on June 26, 2010. She has already reserved the park for that day. The board agreed that they saw no problem permitting this as long as the company providing the pony rides would be responsible for the clean up and for not ruining the grass. They. will also need to provide a Certificate of Insurance to Parks Director Manor. Road Closure Kehoe Lane City Engineer Crouch explained the need to close Keyhoe Lane for two days so that work can be done for the Winn Dixie ditch construction. He is not sure. of the exact dates but will make sure the public is notified before they close it. Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to approve the road closure, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. Anderson Temple Walk-A-Thon Shirley Witherspoon with Anderson Temple came before the Board to request permission to have their annual Walk-A-Thon on May 29, 2010. Officer Grimes will make sure that there is an officer present. Councilperson Wilson made a motion to allow the Walk-A-Thon, seconded by Growth Coordinator Lovan and carried unanimously. Unsafe Building 815 Main St. Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to reschedule the hearing for 815 Main St. for Wednesday May 19, 2010 at 9:30 so that the owner could be present, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. Curb Remova1201 Spring St. At the request of the business owner at 201 Spring St, Street Commissioner Hosea came before the Board to ask about removing the curb at this location to widen the sidewalk. Removing the curb would eliminate parking spaces and possibly cause some drainage issues. Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to approve removing the curb, seconded by Mayor Galligan and failed on a vote of 0-3. Island Ct. Street Party Councilperson Smith came before the Board to get permission for some residents to hold a Street Party on Island Court on May 22, 2010 from 2-8 p.m. Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to approve seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. The Street Department will provide barricades for the party. Contract for Ordinance Codification Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the contract with American Legal Publishing, not to exceed $20,000 for Codification of City Ordinances. Growth Coordinator Lovan seconded the motion and it carried unanimously. There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Growth Coordinator Lovan made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:50 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
