Alti A1VIEiV~MENT OF THE JEFFER.SONVILLE POLICE MERIT COMMISSION RULES AND PROCEDURES, REMOVING LANGUAGE FROM RULE & PROCEDURE #2 SECTION III. ENTITLED "GENERAL APTITUDE TEST" WHEREAS, this Jeffersonville Police Merit Commission (hereinafter the "Commissioners"), has previously adopted the Jeffersonville City Police Merit Commissions Rules and Procedures (hereinafter the "Rules"),, which govern the Commissioners' decision- making with respect to hiring, discipline, and promotion of members of the Jeffersonville City Police Department (hereinafter the "Department"), and the operations of the Commission; and, WHEREAS, one of the criteria used in assessing suitability of an applicant for employment with the Department is the administration of a written examination, which is required to be administered pursuant to Indiana Code §36-8-3.5 et seq. WHEREAS, the Commissioners have consulted with a company and have agreed to contract with said company for the administration of the written examinations to applicants to the Department; and, WHEREAS, the Commissioners are advised by said company that provisions of the Rule and Procedure #2, Section III, of the Jeffersonville City Police Merit Commissions Rules and Procedures, does not provide a sufficient mechanism for determining suitability of candidates; and, WHEREAS, the Commissioners now desire to amend the Rules to provide an adequate mechanism for determination of the suitability of candidates for membership to the Department. E~rr~. ~ f NOW, THEREFORE, BY VOTE OF THE COMMISSIONERS, the Rule and Procedure #2, Section III is hereby amended to read as follows: III. GENEI? 4.L AP'I'ITLTDE TEST Applicants shall be given a test to determine their general aptitude for service as a police officer. The pass group will include all candidates who scored equal to or greater than the national arithmetic mean of the testing group.
