AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING
THE JEFFERSONVlLLE HISTORIC DISTRICT
AN "ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TARG ET AREA"
WHEREAS, on November 1, 1996 the Jeffersonville Economic Development
Commission held a public meeting and recommended that the Jeffersonville Historic
District be designated an economic development target area pursuant to the provisions
of I.C. 6-1.1-12.1-7: and
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana ("the
Council") recognizes the need to stimulate growth and to maintain a sound economy
within the City of Jeffersonville; and
WHEREAS, the Jeffersonville Historic District has become undesirable for
normal development and occupancy because of the lack of development, cessation of
growth, deterioration of improvements or character of occupancy, age, obsolescence,
and other factors which have impaired values and prevented normal development or
use of the property; and
WHEREAS, the Council recognizes that providing incentives to local
development in underutilized or distressed areas would be in the City's best interest;
and
WHEREAS, the Council further recognizes that it would be beneficial to
designate a certain qualified area within the city as an Economic Development Target
Area for the purpose of considering deductions against the assessed value of property
for real property tax purposes; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City is vested with the authority to
designate certain areas of the City to be economic development target areas;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council that pursuant to the
previsions of Indiana law, the Jeffersonville Historic District, as described in Exhibit A
attached hereto and incorporated by reference herein, is hereby designated an
Economic Development Target Area.
Passed and adopted by the Common Council of the City. of Jeffersonville,

BEFORE THE JEFFERSONVILLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
CERTIFICATION OF FAVORABLE RECOMMENDATION
OF PROPOSED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
TARGET AREA RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Schimpff's Confectionery filed a petition before the Jeffersonville
Economic Development Commission requesting that its property in the Jeffersonville
Historic District be declared an Economic Development Target Area; and
WHEREAS, the Jeffersonville Economic Development Commission held a public
meeting on said Petition on November 1, 1996; and,
WHEREAS, at the conclusion of the meeting the Jeffersonville Economic
Development Commission voted by a majority vote of its entire membership to favorably
recommend the proposed Petition to the Jeffersonville Common Council that the entire
Jeffersonville Historic District be declared an Economic Development Target Area.
IT IS THEREFORE CERTIFIED that on November 1, 1996. the Jeffersonville
Economic Development Commission favorably recommended that the Jeffersonville
Common Council adopt a Resolution declaring the Jeffersonville Historic District an
Economic Development Target Area.
