SPECIAL MEETING
MARCH 17, 2010
The regular meeting of the Jeffersonville Building Authority was held on Tuesday, March 17, 2010
at 1:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room at the Jeffersonville City Hall.
Members present were Building Commissioner Russ Segraves, Don Sperzel and Bill Fry. Also
present was John Hosp with Nixon Power.
GENERATOR -FUEL TANK -TRANSFER SWI rCH
A discussion was held on the proposed generator and transfer switch. Mr. Hosp presented
drawings on the Kohler transfer switch which is 18" deep overall. The placement of the unit was
discussed. Mr. Segraves and Mr. Fry said they are back to where the unit was originally planned.
They said the savings on the wire would be dramatic due to the shortened distance. Mr. Hosp
assured Mr. Segraves that the trade in value for the existing unit is $6,300.00. It was discussed that
the old generator and transfer switch could be sold as a team. Mr. Segraves is waiting to hear back
from the Waste Water Treatment plant on the possibly of them using the existing unit. Mr. Fry
questioned the price since the proposed transfer switch is smaller. Mr. Hosp said the price was the
same due to the difference in design. Four choices of the fuel tanks were discussed. The Board
agreed the larger the better. The tanks would hold almost 966 gallons with a full load, which is
good for approximately 49 hours. Mr. Hosp said a customized tank could be built for no more
money.
Mr. Hosp said the proposed generator is the top end of the John Deere choices. Delivery time for
the generator is between 8 to 12 weeks. He will verify the time when he gets back to his office.
The delivery time for the transfer switch is 6 weeks. The Board like the idea that the transfer
switch could be delivered earlier than the generator because it would allow the needed time to
have the preparation work done before the generator is delivered. Mr. Segraves will get a purchase
order number if they decide to go with Mr. Hosp's bid. Mr. Fry then made a motion to purchase
the 49 hour tank and Kohler transfer switch. The motion was seconded by Mr. Sperzel and
tamed unanimously. Mr. Segraves informed the Board that he presented the bid for the
replacement generator to the Board of Public Works and Safety this morning at their meeting.
The bid from Nixon ,Power Services Company in the amount of $60,950.00 was approved.
Mr. Sperzel explained the 4 hour down time that would occur for the Jeffersonville Police
Department during the switch over to the new generator. Mr. Fry suggested a portable unit be
rented to alleviate the down time.
WALNUT RIDGE
Mr. Segraves presented a bid from Walnut Ridge Nursery and Garden Center for the 2010
mowing season which also includes spring cleanup and fall cleanup in the amount of $4,671.00
which reflects a l0yo discount. The fee for 2009 was $5,400.00. Mr. Sperzel made a motion to
approve the 2010 contract. The motion was seconded by Mr. Fry and carved unanimously. Mr.
Segraves informed the Board that the Walnut Ridge contract in the amount of $4,671.00 was
approved by the Board of Public Works and Safety this morning.
TPD FLOOR COVERING
An update on the Jeffersonville Police Department dispatch room floor covering was given. Mr.
Segraves said twenty-six yards are needed and there is a 5 ~s yard credit because there is extra file
left over from the previous job. Mr. Segraves said that Mayor Galligan recommended that the
work not be done due to the possible move. The matter was then tabled.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:25 p.m. on a motion by Mr. Sperzel and seconded by Mr. Fry.
