HomeMy WebLinkAbout09-09-2009_ ~' • LI WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUB C OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson. Also present were: Assistant Police Chief Grimes, Human Resources Director Calabro, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Manor, Assistant Fire Chief Grant, Fire Chief Harrod, Safety Director Lovan, Building Commissioner Segraves, Safety Director Mongarella, WWTP Superintendent Ashack, WWTP Asst. Superintendent Kearney, Planning and Zoning Director Urban, Assistant Planning and Zoning Director Fogle, Engineer Miller Crouch, City Attorney Wilder, Assistant Fire Chief Lee, Code Enforcement Officer Frey, Event Coordinator Knight, Sewer Inspector Wright, Communications Director Thomas, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. • Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the minutes of 8-26-09 and 9-2-09 as presented, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS 1902 RUCK LANE Building Commissioner Segraves said that an "Unsafe Building" letter was sent by certified mail to the owners of the property at 1902 Ruck Lane by the names of James and Jennifer Neal on July 28, 2009. The reasons for the unsafe building letter are: impaired structural condition, fire hazard, public nuisance, dangerous to a person or property because of a violation of a statute or ordinance concerning building condition or maintenance, and vacant and not maintained in a manner that would allow human habitation, occupancy or use under the requirements of a statute or an ordinance. Assistant Fire Chief Lee said his department has inspected the structure and deems it unsafe as well. Several neighbors appeared before the Board in regard to the structure and the problems. Building Commissioner Segraves recommended that the house and the garage be demolished in thirty days. Building Commissioner Segraves said a letter has been sent to the mortgage company about this matter. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the finding by the Board that this structure is unsafe according to Indiana Code Section 36-7-9-2 and pursuant to Jeffersonville _. • City Ordinance No. 84-OR-18, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve demolishing the structure in thirty days with the Mortgage Company and insurance company being notified of the action, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. STREET CLOSING FOR SIGMAPALOOZA Event Coordinator Knight presented street closures for the Sigmapalooza to be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 5 pm to midnight. Riverside Drive between Pearl Street and Spring Street will be closed. The intersection will not be blocked. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:50 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried ST: CLE EASURER :7
