HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-19-2009• MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA AUGUST 19, 2009 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson. Also present were: Assistant Police Chief Grimes, Assistant Police Chief Pavey, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, City Attorney Wilder, Parks Director Manor, Assistant Fire Chief Grant, Sewer Office Manager Mattingly, Building Commissioner Segraves, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Personnel Director Calabro, WWTP Assistant Director Kearney, WWTP Director Ashack, Engineer Crouch, Growth Coordinator Lovan, Fire Chief Harrod, Communications Director Thomas, Asst. Planning and Zoning Director Fogle, Planning and Zoning Director Urban, Safety Director Mongarella, Executive Assistant Young, Events Coordinator Knight, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the minutes of 8-12-09 as presented, and seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, and seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. OLD BUSINESS NEW CHAPEL ROAD CLOSURES Josh Hillman of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz asked the Board to approve a time extension for the New Chapel Road closure. The road is to be closed for 2 1/2 to 3 weeks Monday thru Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 7 am to 7 pm. Mayor Galligan asked that the residents of the area be given notice of the closure and times. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the extended closure and times, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS LST Event Coordinator Knight said Riverside Drive between Pearl Street and Spring Street will remain closed during the LST visit. She said parking has been requested for motorcycles, handicapped persons, buses, and recreational vehicles. Mayor Galligan said he would check on this. Knight said on Saturday a military vehicle convoy will leave from the Post Office and an Art Show is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. BRIDGE WALK/HOOSIERS FOR COMMON SENSE HEALTH CARE PLAN David Stevens asked permission to use North Shore Drive as a turn around on September 22, 2009 for a candlelight walk from 7-10 pm. He said there will be 50 to 200 people in attendance. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. DOOR TO DOOR SALES Natasha Potchak asked permission to go door to door selling art and jewelry about 3 days per week. After discussion, Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the door to door sales permit for 3 months from 9 am to 7 pm Monday through Friday, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. SECOND STREET BRIDGE CLOSURE/IRON MAN Troy Killian of the Sports Commission in Louisville asked for a Second Street bridge closure on Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 11:30 am to 7 pm for the Iron Man event. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. CONTRACT/TENTH STREET PROJECT Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the contract between the City of Jeffersonville and INDOT for the Tenth Street project, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. NEW HIRES Assistant Police Chief Pavey asked the Board to approve hiring three police officers who are replacing three retired officers. The new officers are: Justin Salisbury, Joshua Schiller, and Eric Godbout. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the three officers, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. WILSON SCHOOL ROAD DESIGN CONTRACT Josh Hillman with Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz presented for approval a contract for the Wilson School Road design in the amount of $47,500.00. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the contract, seconded by Mayor Galligan. Councilperson Wilson abstained. GREENWAY Shauna Graf with Greenway asked permission to erect sign markers along the Ohio River Greenway route. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. BLOCK PARTY Councilperson Wilson said portable toilets have been requested for the Back to School party scheduled for Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Maple Street School. Mayor Galligan said the portable toilets are being used at other events that day. There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Councilperson Wilson made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:22 a.m., seconded by Engineer Miller and carried TT ST: W CLE ASURER
