HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-23-1996COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA AUGUST 23~ 1996 The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in the Mayor's Conference Room in the City-County Building, Jeffersonville, Indiana, at 8:00 A.M. on the 23rd day of August 1996. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Thomas R. Galligan, with Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr, at the desk. Mayor Galligan welcomed all in attendance, asking all those present to stand as Councilperson Ron Ellis gave the invocation. He then asked all those present to Join him in the pledge of allegiance to the flag. The roll was called and those present were Councilpersons John Perkins, Ron Ellis, Peggy Knight Wilder, Barbara Wilson, Andrew Williams III, and Vicky Conlin. Absent: Donna M. Frantz. Attorney Sedwick informed the Council the Irvin Wilson Jr. case has been reinstated. Mayor Galligan asked if anyone had any questions on the budgets. Deputy McCauley explained the proposed rate has been calculated reducing the 1996 expenditures by $110,000. This has been agreed upon by the Police Department, the Fire Department, and the City Planner. Another change in the General Fund is to move the S60,000 for three new police vehicles and $40,000 for fire truck payments to the Cumulative Capital Development Fund. A review of the increase in the Sanitation budget to fund the contract was given. There being no further questions, Councilperson Perkins made the motion to suspend the rules for Ordinance No. 96-OR-55 A thru K, seconded by Councilperson Conlin, passing unanimously. Councilperson Perkins, saying this is a nice tax rate and budget, made the motion to pass Ordinance No. 96-OR-55 A thru K on all three readings, seconded by Councilperson Conlin passing on the following roll call vote: Ayes: Councilpersons Ellis, Conlin, Wilder, Perkins, Williams, and Wilson. Nays: None PAGE 3 AUGUST 23, 1996 Mayor Galligan thanked Deputy McCauley for his work on the budgets. Deputy McCauley hopes to have a better handle on the budgets next year. Councilperson Conlin thanked Deputy McCauley and the Clerk and Treasurers Office. Clerk and Treasurer Spencer presented and explained three claims for consideration by the Council. Following discussion, Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve the claims, seconded by Councilperson Ellis and carried unanimously.
