HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-18-2009 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA FEBRUARY 18, 2009 In Mayor Galligan's absence Planning and Zoning Director Urban called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson. Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury sat in as a voting member of the Board. Also present were: Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Assistant Fire Chief Grant, Parks Director Manor, Sewer Office Manager Mattingly, Redevelopment Director Robinson, City Engineer Crouch, Personnel Director Calabro, Assistant Sewer Superintendent Kearney, Fire Chief Harrod, Code Enforcement Officer Frey, Assistant Fire Chief Lee, Event Coordinator Knight, Assistant Police Chief Grimes, Police Chief Deeringer, Executive Assistant Young, City Attorney Wilder, Growth Coordinator Lovan, Street Commissioner Hosea, Communications Director Thomas, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried • unanimously. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the minutes of 2-11-09 as presented, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. OLD BUSINESS TREE REMOVAL AT 410 E. MAPLE STREET This item was tabled until next week. 111 MAPLEHURST Building Commissioner Segraves said this property has been cited as unsafe and a lien has been placed against it. The-owner has been notified of the problem. He recommends that the structure be demolished. Engineer Miller suggested notifying the owner of the demolition plans so her contents can be removed from the house. Engineer Miller made the motion to grant her 60 days to empty the contents of the house and to fix the chimney or it will be torn down, and seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. :7 - CRUSADE TOURNAMENT • The tournament is scheduled for May 16, 2009 at Duffy's Landing. Attorney Wilder will check on the possibility of liability of the City. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the Crusade Tournament pending the City Attorney's review of liability, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. UNSAFE BUILDING Building Commissioner Segraves said this building has been cited as unsafe. The owner has requested one year to fix the problems and to go through the FEMA process. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. The deadline is January 30, 2010. 4318 UTICA-SELLERSBURG ROAD Building Commissioner Segraves said this property has been cited as unsafe. The owners of the property plan to clean it up totally by May 31, 2009. The plan of action is to clean up the debris outside the house by March 31; 2009; paint and re-hang gutters and repair hole in roof by the end of April 2009, and to demolish the shed in the rear by the end of May 2009. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the plan of action, seconded by .Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. • NEW BUSINESS RESIDENT ONLY PARKING/ Ron Brogan requested a resident only parking sign'at 1107 E. 8th Street and Howard Avenue. The police department will check the location. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the resident only parking sign, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. ST. PATRICK'S DAY RUN Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the St. Patrick's Day Run on March 17, 2009, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. The race starts at 6:30 pm and the streets will be opened back up by 7:30 pm. LIGHTING FOR ROLLING RIDGE SECTION 1/DUKE ENERGY CONTRACT Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the contract with Duke Energy to install 13 street lights in the amount of $16,164.50, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. • There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:15 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
