MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
AUGUST 13, 2008
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present
were: City Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson.
Also present were: Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, Street
Commissioner Hosea, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Attorney Wilder, Personnel Director Calabro, IT
Director Hardy, Parks Director Manor, Receptionist Timberlake, Assistant Fire Chief Grant, Police
Chief Deeringer, Assistant Fire Chief Lee, Communications Director Thomas, Chief of Staff Young,
Growth Coordinator Lovan, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson
• Wilson and carried unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
BLUE TEAL LANE
Councilperson Wilson said she received a phone call from a resident who does not want a fence with an
opening installed. Mayor Galligan said he favors installing a fence with no opening as well. Street
Commissioner Hosea got a quote on a 6 ft. chain link fence in the amount of $2,799.00. After
discussion, Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve installing a 6 ft. chain link fence with no
opening, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
STOP SIGN REQUEST
Police Chief Deeringer looked at the location and recommends a stop sign at Boulder Ridge Drive.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the stop sign at Boulder Ridge Drive, seconded by
Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
816 INDIANA AVENUE LIGHT REQUEST
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve installing a dusk to dawn light at this location, seconded by
Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.

NEW BUSINESS
HANDICAPPED PARKING REQUEST
Mike Nelson with St. Paul's Church on Market Street requested two additional handicapped parking
spaces. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve two additional handicapped parking signs,
seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
HANDICAPPED PARKING AT 218 WATT ST. APT.1
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve a handicapped parking sign at 218 Watt Street, Apt. 1 for
Becki Sutton, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
UNSAFE BUILDING at 303 and 305 MARKET STREET
Building Commissioner Segraves said he has sent a citation twice to John Clark who owns the property
at 303-305 East Market Street for an unsafe building. The letter was never claimed. He requests that
the Board approve a thirty day extension to have the letter served by the police. Councilperson Wilson
made the motion to approve a thirty day extension until September 17, 2008 to serve the letter of
citation, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
• PROPERTY CASUALTY RENEWAL
Insurance Agent of Record Pepper Cooper presented for approval a policy for property casualty
insurance. He said he received two competitive bids. One was from Traveler's Insurance for
$352,280.00 and the other from Houston Casualty for $344,867.00. He recommends the Board approve
the bid of Houston Casualty. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the bid of Houston
Casualty in the amount of $344,867.00, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
NORTHAVEN SPEEDING
Concerned residents of Northaven Subdivision voiced concerns about speeding in their neighborhood
and damage to mailboxes etc. Mayor Galligan said he is looking at options to alleviate some of the
problems including speed bumps.

• There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Engineer Miller made the
motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:45 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried
unanimously.
