HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-30-2008• MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JULY 30, 2008 In Mayor Galligan's absence Planning and Zoning Director Urban called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson. Growth Coordinator Lovan acted as a voting member of the Board. Also present were: Purchase Order Clerk Smith, Asst. Police Chief Pavey, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, Street Commissioner Hosea, Attorney Wilder,. IT Director Hardy, Parks Director Manor, Receptionist Timberlake, Communications Director Thomas, Planning and Zoning Director Urban, Emergency Planner Christian, Police Chief Deeringer, Sewer Office Manager Mattingly, Events Coordinator Knight, Growth Coordinator Lovan, Redevelopment Director Robinson, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. OLD BUSINESS 222 WATT STREET Building Commissioner Segraves said the owner of 222 Watt Street has complied with tearing down the structure. NEW BUSINESS HANG BANNER David Smith appeared before the Board to ask that a banner be hung on Court Avenue by Hardees for Providence High School from October 15 to November 2, 2008. The Board will check to make sure the schedule is open on those dates. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve hanging the banner pending the schedule is open, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. HIRING POLICE OFFICERS Police Chief Deeringer asked the Board to approve hiring three police officers in the capacity of patrolmen. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve hiring three police officers, • seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. • OUTDOOR EVENT/ PARK PLACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Jim Moon of Park Place United Methodist Church asked permission to hold an outdoor event to benefit the Home of the Innocence on Saturday, August 8, 2008 from 4 pm to 9 pm. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the event, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. A tent permit will be gotten from the Building Commissioner's office. DAMAGE TO HOUSE AT 812 E. 9TH STREET Joyce Whitson appeared because of damage to her house by a city truck. She said her house has been hit three times. In the past her house has been patched but she said the roofers she called for estimates said she needs her whole roof replaced in order for it to match exactly. She has obtained two estimates. Attorney Wilder said it is a question of the extent of the damage. He said if a dollar amount can't be agreed upon by Ms. Whitson and the city then the insurance companies will have to decide that. The board tabled any action pending insurance company review. STREET CLOSURE FOR HISTORICAL MARKER DEDICATION Engineer Miller made the motion to approve closing Riverside Drive on Friday, August 15, 2008 from 4-8 pm for the dedication, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. A tent permit will be needed. PROPERTY CASUALTY INSURANCE Pepper Cooper appeared in regard to the Property Casualty Insurance renewal on Friday, August 1, 2008 and he only has one quote back out of five. He asked the Board to allow him to meet with the Mayor and two Board members to bind the insurance and then come back on August 13, 2008 to present all the quotes and explain what was done. Attorney Wilder suggests that he meet with the Board members individually. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve this request, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. SIDEWALKS ONALLISON LANE Councilperson Wilson said there is not enough money in EDIT to cover the cost of the sidewalks on Allison Lane which is $395,779.00. She would like to present this to the Council for help to fund it but needs BPW approval to do so. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the Allison Lane sidewalk being done, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. M STREET LIGHT IN ROLLING RIDGE Councilperson Wilson inquired about the status of a street light by Vissing Park in Rolling Ridge Subdivision. Engineer Miller said he is working on it and Dan Braun will get the bill together. Councilperson Wilson said she got a phone call about a street sign being taken down at the corner of Crown Point and Rolling Ridge and not being replaced. Street Commissioner Hosea will check into this. Councilperson Wilson inquired about the status of her prior request for a stop sign at Woodland Court and Simmonds Studio. She said the stop sign was approved at a previous meeting. Street Commissioner Hosea said he will take care of it. NORTHAVEN SPEEDERS Police Chief Deeringer said the majority of speeders in Northaven Subdivision are residents of Northaven. There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
