MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JULY 16, 2008
In Mayor Galligan's absence Planning and Zoning Director Urban called the meeting to order at 9:30
a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson.
Attorney Darren Wilder acted as a voting member to the Board in Mayor Galligan's place.
Also present were: Chief of Staff Young, Planning and Zoning Director Urban, Vehicle Maintenance
Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, Street Commissioner Hosea, Animal Shelter Director
Wilder, Attorney Wilder, Personnel Director Calabro, IT Director Hardy, Parks Director Manor,
Receptionist Timberlake, Emergency Planner Christian, Growth Coordinator Lovan and Trembly,
Redevelopment Director Robinson, Assistant Fire Chief Grant, Purchase Order Clerk Smith, Sewer
Office Manager Mattingly, Police Chief Deeringer, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.

Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the minutes of 6-25-08 as presented, seconded by
Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson
Wilson and carried unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
DOOR KEY PADLOCKS
IT Director Hardy said he will have estimates on door key padlocks in the next week.
SIGNS
Growth Coordinator Lovan said the Ben Hesen signs are in the works.
NEW BUSINESS
SPECIAL EVENT FIREWORKS
Suzanne Corrick of 724 Ohio Avenue requested approval to use legal fireworks at special
events such as birthdays. She would like to have a firework show on August 31, 2008 for a
relative's birthday. The show will last for approximately 30 minutes. Councilperson Wilson
said the ordinance doesn't specify what type of events can use fireworks so she sees no
problem with her request at this time. Attorney Darren Wilder agreed. Engineer Miller made
the motion to approve the request of Suzanne Corrick to use legal fireworks at 724 Ohio
Avenue, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
• METAL DETECTORS
Rita Kinley asked permission to use metal detectors at city parks for treasure hunting. She
was granted permission by general consensus.
HANDICAPPED PARKING SIGN/408 FRANCIS COURT
Joe Eversol asked the Board to approve a handicapped parking sign in front of his residence
at 408 Francis Court due to parking problems. The police department will check the location.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the handicapped sign pending police approval,
seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.

There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Engineer Miller made the
motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:00 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried
unanimously.
