MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WO
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JULY 2, 2008
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present
were: Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson.
Also present were: Assistant Fire Chief Grant, Chief of Staff Young, Purchase Order Clerk Smith,
Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, Street Commissioner Hosea,
Attorney Wilder, Personnel Director Calabro, Parks Director Manor, Receptionist Timberlake,
Communications Director Thomas, Planning and Zoning Director Urban, Redevelopment Director
Robinson, Safety Director Lovan, Councilperson Grooms, Police Chief Deeringer, Councilperson
Smith, Sewer Office Manager Mattingly, Assistant Director of Planning Fogel, and Deputy Clerk
Mayfield.
Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the minutes of 6-25-08 as presented, seconded by
Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the claim to Maverick Insurance to add 7 police cars
to the policy, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson
Wilson and carried unanimously.
222 WATT STREET
Building Commissioner Segraves told the Board that Jason Decker, owner of the property at
222 Watt Street needs 30 days to tear down the structure by July 30th, 2008. After some
discussion Engineer Miller made the motion to approve giving Mr. Decker till July 30, 2008
to tear down the structure, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
ROADBLOCK REQUEST
Joe Young with the VFW Post 1832 asked permission to hold a roadblock on Saturday, July
26, 2008. Mayor Galligan told him there is an ordinance which prohibits roadblocks in the
city due to safety issues. The Mayor suggested he contact the Commissioner's office for
permission in the county.
MASTER AGREEMENT FOR PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve an agreement with Bernard and
Lochmueller for professional services on an as needed basis, seconded by Engineer Miller
and carried unanimously.
YELLOW AMBULANCE LEASE
Councilperson Smith presented an agreement between the City and Yellow Ambulance for
approval. Yellow Ambulance has agreed to occupy the fire station on Crestview for 15 years
to generate revenue and put safety back in that area of town. There will be one paramedic
unit staffed in that building at all times. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the
agreement pending legal review, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried
unanimously.
STOP SIGN REQUEST AT ELLWANGER AND NACHAND LANE
Fred Leachman requested a 3-way stop sign at Ellwanger and Nachand Lane. The police
department will check the location.
WORKMANS COMP INSURANCE- MAVERICK INSURANCE
Pepper Cooper presented the Workmen's Compensation policy renewal at a cost of
$125,948.00 which is a decrease from last year. Engineer Mille made the motion to approve
the policy renewal with Maverick Insurance, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried
unanimously.
BLANKET BOND
Pepper Cooper presented for approval a blanket bond which will cover up to $500,000.00 for
each person on the policy. After some discussion Councilperson Wilson made the motion to
approve the claim in the amount of $5,630.00 for the blanket bond pending Council approval,
seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
HAMBURG PIKE SUPPLEMENTAL AGREEMENT #1
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the Hamburg Pike Supplemental Agreement #1,
seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
FENCE AT BLUE TEAL LANE
Planning and Zoning Director Urban said he checked the location in question. He said a
fence could be put up around the right of way and cut off the cul-de-sac by vacating the end
of Blue Teal. Mayor Galligan asked him to get pricing on a fence.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Engineer Miller made the
motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried
unanimously.
