MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
DECEMBER 31, 2008
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present
were: City Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson.
Also present were: Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Redevelopment Director Robinson, Executive
Asst. Young, Street Commissioner Hosea, Parks Director Manor, Growth Coordinator Lovan, Police
Chief Deeringer, Communications Director Thomas, Sewer Office Manager Mattingly, Fire Chief
Harrod, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Planning and Zoning Director Urban, IT Director Hardy,
Assistant Planning Director Crouch, Building Commissioner Segraves, City Attorney Wilder, and
Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
• Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson
Wilson and carried unanimously.
Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the minutes of 12-17-08 as presented, seconded by
Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
JEFFBOAT LIGHTS
Marvin Bernhart who resides at 917 E. Chestnut Street appeared before the Board in regard to
some new lighting that JeffBoat has installed that shines brightly into his front porch living
area. He said he has spoken with several people from JeffBoat. He was told by Mike Barry
of JeffBoat that the lights would be adjusted down but nothing has been done in weeks.
Another person from JeffBoat told Mr. Bernhart that nothing more could be done. Mr.
Bernhart said Councilperson Smith came by his house and saw the problem. Mr. Bernhart
said the lights are so bright that it is posing a safety problem as well because when trying to
walk down his front steps you can't see the steps in front of you. Mayor Galligan said he will
speak to someone at JeffBoat about the lights and try to solve the problem.
THOMPSON LANE
Planning and Zoning Director Urban said people are driving around the barricades on
Thompson Lane. Mayor Galligan said concrete barriers will be put up.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Councilperson Wilson made the
motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:50 a.m., seconded by Engineer Miller and carried
unanimo sly.
