MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
SEPTEMBER 17, 2008
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present
were: Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson.
Also present were: Chief of Staff Young, Deputy Fire Chief Lee, Police Chief Deeringer, Vehicle
Maintenance Director Drury, Street Commissioner Hosea, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Attorney
Wilder, Personnel Director Calabro, IT Director Hardy, Communications Director Thomas, Assistant
Fire Chief Decker, Fire Chief Harrod, Fireman Hedrick, Code Enforcement Officer Frey, Code
Enforcement Officer Sellers, Planning and Zoning Director Urban, Redevelopment Director Robinson,
Growth Coordinator Lovan, Building Commissioner Segraves, Assistant Fire Chief Grant, Sewer Office
Manager Mattingly, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson
Wilson and carried unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
303-305 E. MARKET STREET CITATION
Code Enforcement Officer Frey said the owner of 303-305 E. Market Street has complied with all but a
few minor violations at the address. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve removing this address
from the unsafe building list, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
WALK-A-THON
Shirley Witherspoon with the Brighter Day Anderson Temple asked permission to hold aWalk-A-Thou
on Saturday, September 27, 2008 from gam to 12 pm to raise funds for our youth. Engineer Miller
made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
FIRE DEPARMENT PROMOTIONS
Fireman Eric Hedrick representing the Firefighter's Union questioned two promotions made previously.
He said the promotions were not per the contract and were not posted correctly. He said he is not
requesting action at this time but wanted to call it to attention at this time. The dates of the promotions
were 8-6-08 and 11-21-07. Mayor Galligan said this matter would be looked into.
KEN ELLIS DIRECTIONAL SIGN
Councilperson Wilson said she received a phone call about the need for a larger directional sign to the
Ken Ellis Building. Mayor Galligan said a sign would be put up.
UNSAFE BUILDING AT 717 E. MARKET STREET
Code Enforcement Officer Sellers said a citation was sent by certified mail to property owner's Norman
and Janet Collard of 717 E. Market Street and no progress has been made and recommends that the
building be demolished. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve demolition of the building,
seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Engineer Miller made the
motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:00 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried
unanimously.
