City Hall Mayor's Conference Room
The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in Special Session on Monday,
January 5, 2009. Council President Ed Zastawny called the meeting to order at 6:40
P.M., and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilpersons Ed Zastawny,
Ron Grooms, Barbara Wilson, Connie Sellers, Mike Smith, and Nathan Samuel. Also
present were Council Attorney Larry Wilder and Chief Deputy Clerk Treasurer Suzy
Bass.
The motion was made by Councilperson Grooms to approve discussion of Council
Elections, Appointments, and Park Department Claims and hiring an HR part time
employee, second by Councilperson Samuel and passed on a vote of 7-0.
Council Elections
The motion was made by Councilperson Smith to nominate Vice President Sellers as
Council President second by Councilperson Grooms passing on a vote of 7-0.
Council President Sellers took over as chair of the meeting.
Councilperson Smith nominated Councilperson Samuel as Vice President of the Council,
second by Councilperson Grooms passing on a vote of 7-0.
Council Appointments
The motion was made by Councilperson Wilson to appoint Councilperson Grooms to the
Solid Waste District Board second by Councilperson Zastawny passing on a vote of 7-0.
The motion was made by Councilperson Zastawny to retain Jamie Lake as a member of
the Dept of Redevelopment Board, second by Councilperson Wilson passing on a 7-0
vote.
The motion was made by Councilperson Wilson to appoint Councilperson Fetz to the
Plan Commission, second by Councilperson Grooms passing on a vote of 7-0.
The motion was made by Councilperson Zastawny to take no action with on the
appointments of the Ethics Commission, second by Councilperson Grooms passing on a
vote of 7-0.
The motion was made by Councilperson Sellers to appoint Councilperson Wilson to the
Board of Public Works Board, second by Councilperson Zastawny passing on a vote of
7-0.
The motion was made by Councilperson Samuel to appoint Warren Schimpff and
Councilperson Smith and Keith Stayton to the Urban Enterprise Zone, second by
Councilperson Grooms passing on a vote of 7-0.
The motion was made by Councilperson Zastawny to take no action on the Tree Board,
Campaign Ethics, and Human Relations Committee at this time, second by
Councilperson Grooms passing on a vote of 7-0.
There being no further business to come before the Council, the meeting adjourned at
