Meeting Minutes
Monday, September 8, 2008
The Jeffersonville Parks Authority met in regulaz session in the City Council
Chambers in City Hall, Jeffersonville, Indiana, on Monday September 8, 2008 at 7:00
P.M. Parks Authority President Ron Grooms called [he meeting [o order at 7:00 P.M.
Councilpersons Mike Smith, Ed Zastawny, Keith Fetz, Connie Sellers, Bazbara Wilson,
Nathan Samuel, and Ron Grooms were present. Also present were: Mayor Galligan,
Parks Superintendent Bob Manors, and Deputy Clerk Treasurer Barbara Hollis.
The minutes of August ] 1, 2008 were presented for approval. Councilperson
Wilson made [he motion to approve the minutes as presented, second by Councilperson
Sellers, passing on a vote of 7-0.
The claim lists were presented for consideration. Parks Superintendent Manor
said there were no out of the ordinary claims presented. Councilperson Fetz made the
motion to approve [he claim list dated August 27, 2008 as presented, second by
Councilperson Zastawny, passing on a vote of 7-0. Councilperson Fetz then made the
motion to approve the claim list dated September 4, 2008 as presented, second by
Councilperson Sellers, passing on a vote of 6-0.
Parks Authority President Grooms thanked Superintendent Manor for providing
the binder and the advisory board meeting minutes.
Noting the need for a policy for naming of parks, President Grooms suggested a
committee be formed. Areas of consideration would be athletic and academic
achievements, and service to the Country and the community. Councilperson Zastawny
would like to have a wall or monument considered. President Grooms asked all [o give
thought to this. A wall of honor is a good suggestion.
Superintendent Manor gave a report on [he progress made at the Shirley Hall Park
restroom/concession stand. The football league started yesterday and looks good. Ms.
Saza Nord has been hired to run the fieldhouse. A program to replace windows a[ [he
fieldhouse has been started. Vissing Park is being worked on and looks better. Leagues
have started at Colston Park Councilperson Zastawny loves the binder. He does ask for
a copy of the appointments.
Mayor Galligan said there is constant play on the Little League parks. There is no
time for the grass to grow. There is a need for a plan to rotate play. The program
committee has new members. He is pleased with the input. The committee has done a
good job running the football league. There has been damage at Bob Hedge Pazk. This
has been fixed. Mayor Galligan said there are a lot of good things happening.
Superintendent Manor is doing a good job. President Grooms said the facilities do look
good. lie then asked about the road cut thru. Mayor Galligan explained [he goals and
needs for Charlestown Jeff Pike and Holmans Lane. President Grooms said the Facilities
Advisory Board would like a copy of the claim lists. Superintendent Manor will do.
Councilperson Zastawny attended the Riverstage program of Lefry and The
Lunatics, noting they "rocked". The season was good.
President Grooms appreciated all for
