HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-09-2008• MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA APRIL 9, 2008 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson. Also present were: Chief of Staff Young, Asst. Police Chief Pavey, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, Mimal Shelter Director Wilder, Attorney Darren Wildey Pazks Director Manor, Fire Chief Harsod, Police Chief Deeringer, IT Director Hazdy, Redevelopment Director Robinson, Sewer Office Manager Mattingly, Purchase Order Clerk Smith, Asst. Fire Chief Grant, Personnel Director Calabro, Planning and Zoning Director Urban, Street Commissioner Hosea, Communications Director Thomas, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the Boazd of Public Works Minutes of 4-2-08 as presented, seconded by Engineer Miller and carved unanimously. • Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carsied unanimously. OLD BUSINESS Assistant Police Chief Pavey said he sees no problem with resident only pazking on High Street. NEW BUSINESS 220 PEARL STREET Jerry Griffith appeazed before the Board regazding semi trucks on Pearl Street. She said the turn is not wide enough and the trucks are tearing up the sidewalk After some discussion Mayor Galligan suggested setting up a route for the semis and setting a weight limit. r~ LJ . 223 PEARL STREET Jury Griffith reported a vacant house a[ 224 Pearl S[reet Chat is dangerous. She said [he house has been vacant for quite some time. Building Commissioner Segraves said he would take care of it. HEART WALK Jamie Longacre appeazed before the Boazd to get approval for the Heart Walk street closings. The walk is on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Engineer Miller made the motion [o approve the street closing, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. MOWING AND LANDSCAPING SERVICE CONTRACT Engineer Miller made the motion to approve a contract with Walnut Ridge in the amount of $5,406.00 for mowing and Landscaping at City Hall, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. DIRECTIONAL BORING Engineer Miller said someone called him that wanted to do directional boring. He said some cities don't allow directional boring and he doesn't think Jeffersonville should either. He said when mistakes aze made it is [oo costly to repair the damage. After some discussion Engineer Miller made the motion to put a six month moratorium on directional boxing starting on this date, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. EC NET Bill Beam appeared before the Boazd to get permission to hold a charitable event on Mulberry Street the day of Thunder. The Dream Factory is to auction off a motorcycle and the Boy Scouts want to have a concession. There will also be a family azea with activities. Engineer Miller made the motion [o approve the event and close Mulberry Street between Riverside Drive and the alley, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. COMPLAINTS ABOUT ALLEY Councilperson Wilson said she received a call in regard to the aLLey between 721 and 725 Wall Street that was approved on Mazch 19, 2008 to be gated in order for boats to be worked on. The caller said the neighbors were not notified of this and the advertisement in the paper had the wrong address. Mayor Galligan said there are other alternatives to getting in and out of the alley. After some discussion, Mayor Galligan said this would be dealt with at the next meeting. ROSE AVENUE STREET LIGHTS Councilperson Wilson said three or four streetlights aze needed on Rose Avenue. Mayor GaLLigan said someone other than Duke Energy should do the work to save money. SWEEPER BIDS Bids were received from Best Equipment and Municipal Equipment. Best Equipment $165,837.43 Municipal Equipment $175,556.00 Engineer Miller made the motion to take the bids under advisement for one week, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
