MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
FEBRUARY 6, 2008
In Mayor Galligan's absence Planning and Zoning Director Urban called the meeting to order at 9:30
a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Engineer Miller and Councilperson Wilson.
Also present were: Chief of Staff Young, EMC Plant Manager Meyer, Asst. Police Chief Marble,
Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, Animal Shelter Director
Wilder, Attorney Wilder, Personnel Director Calabro, Parks Director Manor, Receptionist Timberlake,
Major Morlan, Purchase Order Clerk Smith, Deputy Fire Chief Lee, Police Chief Deeringer, IT Director
Hardy, Safety Director Trembly, Planning and Zoning Director Urban, Redevelopment Director
, Robinson, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
! FIRE STATION CLAIMS
City Attorney Darren Wilder said he needs to look over the claims and will bring them back
next week for approval. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to table this until next week,
seconded by Planning and Zoning Director Urban and carried unanimously.
FIRE STATIONS
Heather Graninger said there are just a few minor things to do to finish the Fire Stations.
Move in is planned for the first week of March for both stations.
SEWER DROP BOX
Clerk Patti Smith said she has gotten several phone calls from handicapped people who can't
reach the sewer drop box and are unable to get out of their cars or are afraid to get out of their
cars. After some discussion, Engineer Miller made the motion to approve putting an arm on
the existing box and adding additional lighting, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and
carried unanimously.

Clerk Patti Smith told the Department Heads that she needs their credit card information for
the City Council.
STREET CLOSING
Justin Campbell from the Parks Department asked the Board to approve closing Riverside
Drive between Spring and Pearl Streets on Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 9-6 pm for an event
called Mind, Body, and Soul. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the closure,
seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
DIRECTIONAL SIGNS
Reverend Drumondo Simpson from Indiana Avenue Baptist Church requested approval to
erect two directional signs for the church on both sides of Tenth Street off the ramp coming
into Jeffersonville. Engineer Miller said one sign can be attached to the existing church sign
located there and the other sign can be placed on Locust Street. Engineer Miller made the
motion to approve the signs, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
HANDICAPPED SIGN REQUEST
Cindy McAdams of 721 E. Ninth Street requested a Handicapped sign. The police will check
the location. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the handicapped sign
pending police approval, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously.
PLANNING AND ZONING ATTORNEY ADDITIONAL HOURS
Planning and Zoning Attorney Mickey Weber asked the Board to approve some additional
hours. After some discussion Engineer Miller made the motion to approve 20 hours for
February, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS AND DOOR TO DOO~ PERMIT
Chris Padgett with Edward Jones introduced himself and told the Board he is opening a new
business and said he would be going door to door to promote his business. The Board told
him he would need a permit to do so.
r',: i914 E. CHESTNUT STREET SIGN REQUEST
Burma Cedars requested a resident only parking sign in front of her residence. The police
. will check the location. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the resident only
parking sign, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. The sign is
$100.00 per year. If the resident moves to anoth~r location in the city the sign can be moved
to that location.
There being no further discussion to come before the Board, Engineer Miller made the
motion to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried
