HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-05-2007~-~~ i i MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JE~'FERSONVILLE, INDIANA ~, DECEMBER 5, 2007 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Perkins and City Engineer Miller. ', Also present were: Fire Chief Miles, Assistant Police Chief Lovan, Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, Personnel Director Calabro, IT Director Hardy, Street Commissioner Ellis, Street Department Secretary Miller, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Building Commissioner Segraves, City Attorney Merkley, Councilperson Wilson, Redevelopment Director Cahill, and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to table the minutes of 11-21-07 as presented, seconded by ', Councilperson Perkins and carried unanimously: Engineer Miller made the motion to 'approve the minutes of 11-28-07 as presented, seconded by Councilperson Perkins and carried unanimously. ;Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by 'Councilperson Perkins and carried unanimously. NEW BUSINESS: FIRE STATION 2 AND 4 UPDATE- Heather Graninger of Kovert Hawkins Architects gave an update on Fire Stations 2 and 4 and City Services Complex. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve finishing the ', deceleration lane ($2,200.00) seconded by Councilperson Perkins and carried unanimously. PARADE PERMIT FOR MARTIN LUTHER KING ', Councilperson Perkins made the motion to apprbve the requests by Margaret Shea for a ', Martin Luther King parade on January 21, 2008, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. `: ~ 1 ~ ACCOUNTS PAYABLE VOUCHER Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the accounts payable voucher transactions for the Fire Stations and City Services Complex in the amount of $1,264,090.90, seconded by Councilperson Perkins and carried unanimously. JEFFBOAT PARKING PROBLEM Laurie Kearney appeared before the Board in regard to Jeffboat employees parking in front o:f her residence at 131 E. High Street. Assistant Police Chief Lovan said his department is ', working on the problem. MOWING DAMAGE ' Mr. and Mrs. Dunn of 3606 E. Tenth Street appeared before the Board in regard to damage done to their house by City of Jeff employees mowing. They presented three estimates. City Attorney Merkley said he will submit them to the insurance company. Engineer Miller made ' the motion to take this under advisement, seconded by Councilperson Perkins and carried unanimously. `~ RESIDENT ONLY PARKING Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve a resident only parking sign to Kirk Swenson at 331 Mechanic Street, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. PARKING ON WATT ST. AND E. '7TH STREET ', Paige Gabhart of 429 Maple Street appeared before the Board to request a handicapped parking sign at the corner of Watt Street and Maple Street. Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. Paige Gabhart and Joan Henderson requested that "no parking" signs be removed on Watt Street and E. Seventh Street. Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve removing ', the signs, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. CUL-DE-SAC PARKING Street Department Secretary Miller said people parking in cul-de-sacs are making it more difficult for sanitation trucks to collect trash. After some discussion, Councilperson Perkins ', said the ordinance would have to be changed in order to change the way people can park in ~`"'~ cul-de-sacs. +, ~ ,~ I ~ i FIREWORK APPROVAL FOR HEARTLAND' Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve fireworks in the Heartland parking lot on ~', December 7, 2007, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. KENTUCKIANA COMFORT CENTER ', Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve a letter for release for the Kentuckiana Comfort Center, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. j SPEED LIMIT SIGNS ', Engineer Miller made the motion to approve 25 mph signs on Ridgeway Drive, seconded by ;Councilperson Perkins and carried unanimously, ELKE POINTE SIGNS Street Commissioner Ellis said he thinks more of a problem will be created by a three way ^'a, ~ stop sign at Elke Pointe and Charlestown Pike. Assistant Police Chief Lovan said he checked ~' it out at night and didn't see a problem as it is. Councilperson Perkins suggested erecting flasher signs further down the road to warn of a three way stop ahead.
