AN ORDINANCE FIXING BASIC SAi~RtT:S OF ELECTED OFFICIALS
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA FOR THE YEAR 2008
WHEREAS, IC 36-1-2-6(3) designates the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville as the Fiscal Body of said city, and
WHEREAS, IC 36-1-2-9(3) designates the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville as the Legislative Body of said city,
NOW, THEREFORE, LET IT BE ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVII.,LE
SECTION i. This Ordinance shall set forth the annual. compensation payable to elected officials of the City of Jeffersonville for the
calendar year of 2008.
SECTION 2 From and after the first day of January 2008, the following elected officials of the City of Jeffersonville shall receive
the following annual compensation.
GENERAL FUND•

This ordinance shad be deemed adopted after passage by the Common Councit of the City of Jeffersonville and approval by
the. Mayor of the City of Jeffersonville; or the timely override of his veto. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect as of
January 1, 2008.

ORDINANCE NO. 2007-OR-69
AN ORDINANCE FIXING BASIC SALARIES
OF ELECTED OFFICIALS OF THE CITY
OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA FOR THE
YEAR 2008
STATEMENT OF REASONS
Comes now Robert L. Waiz, Jr., Mayor for the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and hereby
vetoes Ordinance No. 2007-OR-69 ("An Ordinance Fixing Basic Salaries of Elected Officials of
the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana for the Year 2008"), and in support states the following:
1. The amount of increases for the salaries for elected officials is fiscally irresponsible.
2. Such increases will place an undue burden on both the city's budget and the taxpayers.
3. The rationale that the increases are necessary due to annexation is without merit since
the city is not obligated to provide services to the annexed area until at least January 2009 and
maybe longer due to pending litigation concerning annexation.
4. It is self serving to give elected officials such a large increase in pay while city
employees receiving 3% increase.

The Jeffersonville Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana,
meeting in Special Session on December 21, 2007 at 4:30 p.m.
moves to override the veto by the Mayor of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana of
Ordinance 2007-OR-69
"An Ordinance Fixing the Basic Salaries of Elected Officials of the
City of Jeffersonville, Indiana for the Year 2008.
