MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JULY 18, 2007
In Mayor Waiz absence, Engineer Miller called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll
those members present were: Councilperson Perkins and Street Commissioner Ellis sitting in for City
Engineer Miller.
Also present were: Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, Building Commissioner Segraves, Animal
Shelter Director Wilder, IT Director Hardy; Fire. Chief Miles, Councilperson Wilson, Vehicle
Maintenance Director Drury, Personnel Director Calabro, Redevelopment Director Cahill, City Attorney
Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield.
Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Street
Commissioner Ellis and carried unanimously.
Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve the minutes of 7-3-07 and 7-11-07 as
~' ~ presented, seconded by Street Commissioner Ellis and carried unanimously.
UNSAFE.BUILDING AT 1117 SPORTSMAN DRIVE
On June 5, 2007, Building Commissioner Segraves cited by Certified Mail the heirs Clarence
.Baxter, Christa Baxter, and Everhome Mortgagee., Company in regard to the unsafe building at
,1117 Sportsman Drive. It was declared unsafe due to impaired structural condition, fire
hazard, hazard to public health, public nuisance, 'dangerous to persons or property because of
a violation of a statue or ordinance concerning building condition or maintenance, and vacant
:and not maintained in a manner to allow human habitation, occupancy or use under the
requirements of a statute or an ordinance. Ms. Rutherford, a representative of the Health
Department appeared before the Board to declare that the building is unfit for human
habitation. Dennis Dierking of the Fire Department said it is a fire hazard as well. Fire Chief
Miles said the building would be unsafe for a fireman to go in if it were to catch fire.
Attorney Matt Blanton appeared on behalf of Butch Bunnell to request a thirty day extension
to repair the building. Mr. Bunnell thinks it could be renovated for about $30,000.00. After
discussion, Councilperson Perkins made the motion to approve demolishing the structure,
seconded by Street Commissioner Ellis and carried unanimously.

~,~.....,, i FIRE STATION UPDATE
Heather Graninger of Kovert Hawkins gave an update on progress on the Fire Stations. She
said the bid package on the Salt Barn should be ready next week. The bid opening is
scheduled for August 15, 2007.
819 FRENCH STREET
Resident Jason Knight complained about loud music coming from a resident of the apartment
complex on French Street. He said he has called the police numerous times and has called the
landlord. The landlord said there is nothing he can do about the problem. Mr. Knight said he
is being harassed because he has complained. Councilperson Perkins said there is a noise
ordinance and a nuisance ordinance. Officer Grimes said that the person responsible for the.
loud music has been cited into City Court.
RESIDENT ONLY PARKING
Karen Foster appeared on behalf of Joe Clapp to request a resident only parking sign at his
residence at 501 E. Seventh Street. After some discussion the police department was asked to
check the location and advise the best solution to this parking problem.
FIRE DEPARTMENT PROMOTIONS
Councilperson Perkins made the motion to table the promotions until next week. so he can
look over them, seconded by Street Commissioner Ellis and carried unanimously.
