MINUTES OF MEEI'ZN~ - DECEMBER 08, 2003
Vice President ,Tohn Young called the meeting to order at 12:10pm. The roll was called and
those in attendance were as follows: ,Tohn Young, ,Tohn Ueding, Clark Miles, and Sue Pfau.
· Absent: Ed Voyles, Sr., and Twyman Patterson.
Personnel and guest present were as follows: Superintendent Rick Elliott, Assistant
Superintendent Beverty Couts, Activities Director Rob Poll, City Council Member Barbara
Wi)son, and Evening News City Editor ,Tohn P, eiter. Any other guests present will be
recognized as they address the board.
Minutes:
The October 2003 minutes were approved as submitted on a motion made by Clark Miles,
seconded by Sue Pfau, carried unanimously.
Old Business:
None
New Business:
The 2004 Park Board meeting dates were approved as submitted on a motion made by
Clark Miles, seconded by ,Tohn Ueding, carried unanimously. Copy of said schedule is
attached to these minutes.
The 2004 park and facility fees were approved os submitted. Superintendent noted that
there were no changes because most of these fees were reviewed and changed earlier this
year. He also noted fees for the ~Teff Aquatic Center are not included and should be
reviewed early spring 2004. A motion was made to approve said fees by ,Tohn Ueding,
seconded by Clark Miles, carried unanimously. Copy of said fee schedule is attached to
these minutes.
N~_¢hand Fieldhouse Monthly Report:
Rob distributed September, October and November 2003 monthly reports for review. He
informed the refinished gym floor with the old/original Iago looks really good. He also
informed this is the 10th year for our K12 basketball league. He added we have 16 teams in
K12 this year and invited everyone to stop in on a Saturday morning and witness this event
that has been one of our most successful and enjoyable programs. A motion was made to
accept said reports by Clark Miles, seconded by Sue Pfau, carried unanimously.
Claims:
The October 2003 claims were approved as submitted on a motion made by ,Tohn Ueding,
seconded by Clark Miles, carried unanimously.
The November 2003 claims were approved as submitted on a motion made by Clark Miles,
seconded by ,Tohn Ueding, carried unanimously.
Correspondence:
Letter was read from ~Teffersonvilie High School Band Boosters requesting a donation of
merchandise or gift certificate to be used as prizes for the students selling the most
items for their fundraiser. A motion was made by 5ua Pfau to donate one pool pass,
seconded by ,Tohn Ueding, carried unanimously.
Letter was read from St. Luke's Church requesting a donation for their annual basket
silent auction in February 2004. A motion was made by ,Tohn Ueding to donate one pool
pass, seconded by Clark Miles, carried unanimously.
Letter was read from Barbara Anderson, Executive birector of Haven House Services,
Inc. thanking the Parks bepartment for recent donation of a television for their kid's room
at Williams Emergency Housing Center.
Letter was read from Kathy Gatz thanking the Parks bepartment for donation of 2-hour
rental at the Nachand Fieldhouse for Sacred Heart School's annual Breakfast with St.
Nick on becember 7, 2003. Rick informed the request came in November and the event
was before this board's becember meeting. This has been an annual request from them
for the past few years and has always been approved by this board.
Thank you was read from Rob Poff and his family for the support, food, and presence at
the funeral for his father Carl Poll, Sr.
Superintendent's Report:
Rick informed the board that he received o letter from the new incoming Mayor Rob Woiz
informing him that he would not be reinstated in ,Tanuary 2004 as Superintendent of Parks
bepartment. He then sorrowfully stated: "]; want this Board and co-workers to know that
]; have been blessed in my 3? years of continual service with the City of ,Teffersonville. ];
really enjoyed my role as Superintendent but most of you know ]; did not reach out for the
position. ]; was working for bonnie Paola, Superintendent of Maintenance when the ~ob
came calling me. bonnie was doing a great ~ob and he had some health problems that would
not allow him to continue in status of Superintendent.'
Superintendent's Report: (continued)
"He nsked me to assume his duties and Z did so (under administration of Mayor Porker) os
interim Superintendent. When Mayor Golligon was elected I resigned as interim
Superintendent end thought I was now going back to Maintenance where I truly wanted to
work. I wanted to get out of the office and contribute without the stress. Mayor Golligan
then asked me to toke the Superintendent's position. I was shocked because I did not
apply. After much discussion with family, friends, and co-workers T decided to accept the
job. ]~ have no regrets, together we hove accomplished a lot to be proud of end that will
always be a part of our time together end the future of this City. There are still some
projects I would like to see finished being the football complex at Shirley Hall Pork (T.,T.
School), and the restoration of the Nachond Fieldhouse. And T ask you as Board Members
to see that these pro, acts ore not forgotten. I'll conclude by letting you all know if I con
be of any help to this board or the new Superintendent I will be available."
Board Tnput:
All board members in attendance individually stated their disappointment of losing Rick as
Superintendent and noted their appreciation for the dedication he gave to them and the
job during his nine years of service.
Announcements:
The next scheduled meeting for this board will be on ,Tanuary 12, 2004.
Adjournment:
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 12:38 on o motion made by
,Tohn Ueding, seconded by Sue Pfau, carried unanimously.
