MINUTE,?, OF MEET]:NG - SEPTEMBER 08, 2003
President Voyles called the meeting to order at 12:00pm. The roll was called and those in
attendance were as follows: Ed Voyles, Sr., .Tohn Ueding, Clark Miles, Twyman Patterson,
and 5ua Pfau. Absent: ~Tohn Young.
Personnel and guest present were as follows: Superintendent Rick Elliott, Assistant
Superintendent Beverly ¢outs, Director of Redevelopment ~ayle Robinson, City Council
member Barbara Wilson. Any other guest present will be recognized as they address the
board.
Minutes:
The August 2003 minutes were approved as submitted on a motion made by .Tohn Ueding,
seconded by 5ua Pfau, carried unanimously.

New Business:
Superintendent Rick Elliott addressed the board for approval to extend the Concerts in
the Park one week. He explained due to weather canceling concert on ,Tune 06th that band
rescheduled for September Zgth. A motion was made by 5ua Pfau to approve 2003
Concerts in the Park 5eries through September Zgth, seconded by ,Tohn Ueding, carried
unanimously.
Superintendent Rick Elliott addressed the board regarding our Tap, ,Tazz & Ballet Classes
for 2003-04. He explained this program has been located at ,Teff High School for the
past few years and moved around from the wrestling room to classrooms. The instructor
Cristie FlaJre was contacted by Amy 5turgis, Volunteer Coordinator with Noah's Ark
Children's Village inquiring about the program and through this discussion offered to have
the classes at their recreation hall located off Allison Lane. He informed that ,Tackle
Langdon, Parks Office Manager and Cristie met with Amy and ~Toan Smith, Executive
Director of Noah's Ark to visit the Site and discuss details. Noah's Ark is offering their
recreation hall for all our classes and in return any of the foster children living at Noah's
Ark can participate at no cost. Rick ~tated they currently have three homes on site with
approximately six children in each home and a fourth home is under construction. He also
informed the Parks department (maintenance) has agreed to install a ballet bar in the
recreation hall for use during classes. Rick concluded by stating he feels this is a great
opportunity for this program and requests this board's approval also assuring he will keep
them updated on the progress. A motion was made to approve said request by Twymon
Patterson, seconded by Clark Miles, carried unanimously.
New Business: (continued)
Rick addressed the board regarding rentals at our Nachand Fieldhouse. He requests this
board's approval for private parties only, unless the Parks Deportment cosponsors the
event. He explained that we have had several calls for fund raisers, charities, and "for
profit" events which takes more time in the gym leaving less hours or time in the gym for
memberships, open gym, and private parties. After some discussion a motion was made by
Twyman Patterson to accept private party rentals only, with only exceptions being events
cosponsored by the Parks Department at the Nachand Fieldhouse, seconded by ~Tohn
Ueding, carried unanimously.
Nachond Fieldhouse Monthly Report:
No report. Gym opens September l§, 2003.
Claims:
The September claims were approved as submitted on a

Correspondence:
Thank you note was read from the Cherry Hill Neighborhood Association for assistance
with recent drug-free event held at Bob Hedge Park.
Letter was read from ~Tuanita Thomas with Sherwood Height Mobile Home Park. They ore
having a "Blockwatch Block Party" on September 03rd and requesting donation of six picnic
tables for the event. Rick explained we helped with this event last year with no problems
and is happy to help by having maintenance crew take six picnic tables out and pick them up
after the event.
Letter was read from MOna ,Tenkins, with Family Place in Louisville, Kentucky. They are
requesting donation of a pool party next summer for their organization that helps child
abuse. Rick informed the board that he already responded to Ms. ,Tenkins denying the
request as to not start a precedent.
5uperintendent's Report:
Rick informed the board of a youth football league sponsored by Wesley United Methodist
Church at Lansden Park. He explained Angola Tobin with the church contacted our office
for use of Lansden Park for a youth football league they wanted to offer kids in the area
after church. They have provided proof of insurance, copy of their rules, and schedule to
the Main Office. He concluded by stating that there not much more to report on at this
time.
Announcements:
At this time Gayla Robinson spoke to thank the Parks bepartment for their assistance
during the visit of the LST Boat at the overlook.
The next scheduled meeting for this board will be on Monday, October 13, 2003.
Adjournment:
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at l?:45pm on a motion made
by ~Tohn Ueding, seconded by Twyman Patterson, carried unanimously.
