HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-16-2005MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA NOVEMBER 16, 2005 City Engineer Miller called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and Building Commissioner Russ Segraves. Also present were: Asst. Police Chief Lovan, Human Resource Director Calabro, Planning and Zoning Director Hicks, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Assistant Street Commissioner Louis Galligan, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Parks Director Poff, City Attorney Merkley and Chief Deputy Clerk Bass. Commissioner Segraves made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously. Protest Permit Erica Sellers appeared before the Board to request permission to protest Monday November 21, 2005 from 5:00 - 6:00 P.M. against the Smoking Ban Ordinance. The motion was made by Councilperson Sellers to approve the request second by Commissioner Segraves and passed unanimously. Assistant ChiefLovan will have an officer there to make sure it is a peaceful protest. Free Standing Banner Angela Hayes, representing Catholic Returning Home, appeared before the Board to request a freestanding banner on Holmans Lane and l0th St from December 9, 2005 - January 9, 2006. The motion was made by Councilperson Sellers to approve the request, seconded by Commissioner Segraves and passed unanimously. KY Derby Festival Run Matt Gibson and Mark Perry appeared before the Board concerning the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon. They would like to expand the marathon to include more of Jeffersonville. They presented the Board with a map of what streets will need to be closed. The motion was made by Councilperson Sellers to approve the request, seconded by Commissioner Segraves and passed unanimously. The marathon will be April 29, 2006 from 9:30 an~- 1:30 pm. Change Order Request Attorney Merkley presented the Board with Change Order 4 for the Jeffersonville City Hall This is for the installation of Storm and Sanitary Sewers. It should have been installed by Suns Property but wasn't done. He is requesting that the City pay for it and he will pursue a refund from them. The motion was made by Councilperson Sellers to approve the request, seconded by Commissioner Segraves and passed unanimously. Director Wilder informed all that the Animal Shelter would be closed from Thanksgiving Day through Sunday for cleaning. Superintendent Poff said that the Parks Department has designed in house street banners for Christmas and they will be put up next week. Director Calabro told those present that the new Medicare prescription coverage is now in effect and she is in the process of communicating with all eligible employees. Nellie Knowland thanked Director Wilder for the prompt action when she called about a stray animal behind Vissings Dodge. Engineer Miller said that l0th St at the railroad crossing would be closed for repairs on November 16, 2005. He was not happy with one lane of the crossing and has asked them to redo it. Assistant Lovan asked what is the chain of command when the streets are flooded. Engineer Miller said to call him and if he isn't available, then to call Mike Lanham. Councilperson Sellers asked Assistant Galligan to get her some flyers to pass out in the Meadows concerning not raking leaves into the street. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Councilperson Sellers~ a.m., seconded by Commissioner Segraves Miller and carried unanimously. MAYOI~ /
