HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-16-2005MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA FEBRUARY 16, 2005 !Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and Engineer Miller. Also present were: Building Commissioner Segraves, Street Department Employee Galligan, Police Chief Ashabranner, Vehicle Maintenance Director Dmry, Fire Chief Miles, Redevelopment Director Cahill, Administrator Davis, Personnel Director Calabro, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Assistant Director Couts, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Mayfield. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. OLD BUSINESS BITUMINOUS BIDS Engineer Miller made the motion to award the fuel bid to Petroleum Traders, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to award the stone bid to Liter's Quarry, seconded by Councilperson Seller and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to award the bid to Gohmann Asphalt to apply asphalt, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to award to Sellersburg Stone the bid to pick up asphalt for patching, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously. NEW BUSINESS CAMBRIDGE CONSTRUCTION Larry Heck of Cambridge Construction asked the Board to approve his company blocking a portion of Spring Street to do fa¢ade repairs to the Elks Building. He said the repairs and improvements would take about eight weeks. A lift will be brought in Monday, February 21, 2005. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the blocking of a portion of Spring Street, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously. HANDICAPPED PARKING Pam Harris who is disabled appeared before the Board to request a handicapped parking sign at 336 Mechanic 'Street. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the sign pending police approval, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimously. TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURE Brian Haeseley appeared before the Board to request closing a portion of Mechanic Street to place a modular home on a lot at 434 Mechanic Street. He is to notify the police department what day it is to occur. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the closure on Tuesday or Wednesday, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carded unanimOusly. CITY SEWERS Mike Hynes introduced Paul Whitman to the Board. Mr. Whitman is proposing to build an 80 unit apartment complex and requested a letter of sewer availability from the city. Mayor Waiz said he could write a letter stating sewer availability contingent upon sewer capacity. CITATION Building Commissioner Segraves said Dr. Dennis Williams has been cited for his property at 223 Pearl Street for exterior maintenance violations. Dr. Williams appeared before the Board and said he has talked with several handymen about doing the work. He said he doesn't have the funds at the present time to do the work but hopes to have the funds in April. Building Commissioner Segraves said he wants to work with Dr. Williams but needs some type of schedule and time frame of the work to be done. Mayor Waiz requested that Dr. Williams provide a schedule in two weeks. COMMENTS' Building Commissioner Segraves said the stop sign at Bishop Lane and Fallow Drive is down. Louis Galligan said it has been put back up. Administrator Davis said he knows of someone who can update the Intemet at a more reasonable price if money is an issue. Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury said he needs all the information on Petroleum Traders. Personnel Director Calabro said there are two positions open. One is for a police officer and the other is for an aquatic director. Animal Shelter Director Wilder said he needs to replace a 97 truck that was wrecked. It may be totaled out. Louis Galligan said tree trimming is being done around town.
