HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-R-17CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE RESOLUTION NO. 2002-R- ~ A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE AS A VOLUNTARY COLLECTION SITE FOR NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS FOR THE HUNGRY WHEREAS, hunger is one of the greatest problems facing people in Clark County and State of Indiana today; and, WHEREAS, the average age of homelessness is NINE YEARS of AGE; and, WHEREAS, far too many persons, children and adults, go to bed hungry every night of their lives; and WHEREAS, hunger can and does affect the ability of children to learn and develop and affects both children and adults' ability to work and function; and, WHEREAS, we are fortunate that agencies in such as Center for Lay Ministries and Haven House, Inc., exist to alleviate hunger in our county by collecting food and making it available to those in need; and, WHEREAS, our City and its Residents have long been in the forefront of concern, generosity and charitable good works; and, WHEREAS, it now behooves us to affect a concerted effort to help those in needs; now, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE that the City hereby establishes itself as collection site of non-perishable food products for all its events, meetings and public activities; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the City of Jeffersonville will convey to Center of Lay Ministries and Haven House, split evenly, each and every donation received through this voluntary "admission fee" to be distributed to the needy according to its well-established criteria; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED nothing in this Resolution shah be constituted as an effort on the part of the City of Jeffersonville to deny access to any meeting, activity or event to any person.
