HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-17-2004MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MARCH 17, 2004 Mayor Waiz called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Sellers and City Engineer Miller. Also present were: Police Officer Rodden, Building Commissioner Seagraves, Vehicle Maintenance Director Drury, Street Commissioner Ellis, Police Chief Ashabranner, Personnel Director Calabro, Fire Chief Miles, Planning and Zoning Director Padgett, Redevelopment Director Becker, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Parks Director Poff, City Attorney Merkley and Deputy Clerk Lynne Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 3-10-04, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. LIFESPAN Julie Wilson of Lifespan requested the use of the Warder Park gazebo on June 3, 2004 for the Senior Games. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the use of the gazebo on June 3, 2004, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. The police will block off the appropriate areas. RED CROSSROADBLOCK Police Officer Rodden representing the FOP Lodge 100 said they would like to raise money for the Red Cross by having a roadblock at two locations for the next two Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. The police department will man the roadblocks. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the roadblocks by FOP Lodge 100, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. ST. PAUL'S CHURCH Jason Thornberry asked permission to have a 5K Run on March 20, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. along Riverside Drive to raise money for the Red Cross. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to approve the 5K Run, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. FUNDRAISER Kristen Cross who works for Dairy Mart asked the Board to approve for them to hold a fundraiser for Riley Hospital at Hamburg Pike and N.A. Charlestown Road. The Board said they had no problem with it. It will be held in the parking lot. PARADE PERMIT Barbara Anderson asked the Board's permission to hold a Pro-Peace Rally across from Rocky's Restaurant on March 26, 2004 from 11 a.m. till 2 p.m. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the rally, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. STREET ADDRESS PROBLEM Jan Waiz of 2423 Ashwood Court appeared before the Board with a petition to name the street she resides on Ashwood Court. There has been confusion over whether it is names Ashwood Drive or Ashwood Court. The residents sometimes have trouble getting their mail because of this. Planning and Zoning Director Padgett said he thinks part of the problem is that at one time the street was going to go all the way through and instead it ended up as a cul-de-sac. The through street was going to be called Ashwood Street. Director Padgett said he would make the necessary calls and look into which name should be used. RIVER FALLS ASSEMBLY OF GOD Tom McCullum representing River Falls Assembly of God told the Board that they are planning a tent revival in Lansden Park if permitted. It is to held on April 29, 30, and May 1, 2004 from 5 pm to 10 pm. Food will be provided. Music will run from 7-8 p.m. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the revival, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. SALON 253 Holly Wethington, the owner of Salon 253 asked the Board for permission to sell refreshments and handout flyers in front of her salon the day of Thunder Over Louisville. She said the sidewalk would not be blocked. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. PRIVATE STREET NAME Planning and Zoning Director Padgett said the Developer of the Quadrangle would like to name the development's street Quartermaster Court officially. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the name, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. RESIDENT ONLY PARKING Lisa and Tim Smith requested two resident only parking signs in front of their residence at 624 Penn Street. Police Chief Ashabranner said he would check the location. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the resident only parking signs, seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously. Resident only parking signs are $100.00 per year per sign. CONDEMNATIONS UNDER PREVIOUS ADMINISTRATION City Attorney Merkley told the Board that certain condemnations done by the previous administration concerning property that is now in the city of Charlestown should be rescinded and dismissed. Those properties belong to Richard Lewman, Robert Hollis, and Juanita Ward. Councilperson Sellers made the motion to rescind and dismiss the Condemnations, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller stated for the record that these condemnations were not in the City of Charlestown when he voted on them during the previous administration. COMMENTS: f~-~! Planning and Zoning Director Padgett said a request was made for a stop sign at Augusta Drive and Charlestown New Albany Pike. He asked to put a counter there to get some data and asked the police dept. to check for speeding. Street Comm. Ellis said he talked to Mr. Julius about opening up Spring St. where work is being done because of the fire. Mr. Julius said they would have it cleaned up and the street open today. Nellie Knowland said kids are tearing down privacy fences. Mayor Waiz said phone call would be made. Animal Shelter Director Wilder gave the Mayor a proposal on an air exchange unit for the shelter in the amount of $16,650.00 from Kempf Heating and Cooling. The Board will take it under advisement. There being no further discussion to come before the Board the motion was made by Engineer Miller to adjourn at 10:08 a.m., seconded by Councilperson Sellers and carried unanimously.
