A Resolution AmendlnR the Jeffersonville Police Department
Standard Operating Procedures
WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works and Safety has the authority to manage and
oversee the Jeffersonville Police Department including alt operating procedures;
WHEREAS, the Jeffersonville Police Department through the Board of Public Works and
Safety has previously adopted Standard Operating Procedures on or about October 20,
2000;
WHEREAS, the Board of Public Works upon the recommendation of the Police Chief
believes there is a need to amend the Standard Operating Procedures for more efficient
administration;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Public Works that the Jeffersonville
Police Department Standard Operating Procedures (adopted on or about October 20,
2000) is hereby amended as follows:
Title II, Article 4, Chapter 3 entitled "Appointment to the Department" shall read as
follows:
The minimum requirements for appointment as a regular officer shall be:
1. Citizen of the United States.
2. At least 21 years of age.
3. Submission to background checks.
4. Submission to physical examination after issuance of a "conditional offer of
employment".
5. Successful completion the pre-entrance Physical Fitness Assessment, which is
required by ILEA with a maximum of two (2) attempts within the first year of
date of hire.
6. Successful completion of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy within the
first year of date of hire.
Title II, Article 1, Chapter 2, Section 7 entitled "Command Authority" shall read as
follows:
When a question of authority may arise regarding who shall be in command, such
authority shall be determined:
1. First by rank (and/or delegated or acting authority);
2. Second, if officers are of equal rank, by the officer having the most seniority
(seniority will be based on the time in a specific rank and date of promotion
and not date of hire) who then is designated as in command, or by the nature
of the assignment.
This amendment shall be effective immediately upon passage.
