HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-09-1993MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY AUGUST 9~ 1993 Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman filled in, for Mayor Parker in his absence and called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman~ and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra, Acting Board Member Administrative Assistant Donna Baird. Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin~ City Engineer Bob Miller, Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Attorney Mike Gillenwater, Plant Superintendent Larry James~ Police Chief Rick Elliott~ Fire Chief Jerry Dooley, Assistant Fire Chief Clifton James Jr.~ Animal Shelter Assistant Mike Gentry, Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen, City Services Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh, Parks Director of Activities Chuck Branham, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr., and Clerk Alice Davis. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of August 8, 1993 as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. RESIDENT PARKING 534 E. COURT AVENUE Police Chief Rick Elliott reported that the resident parking was denied for Donald Bishop, 534 E. Court Avenue. He was given a residence parking sticker instead. REEDS LANE CAVE-IN City Engineer Bob Miller reported that the Contractor has ordered the steel for the cave-in on Reeds Lane, but they have not started on it as of now. Mr. Miller also said that he had a 3 ton load limit on the street. LIGHT POLE AT SPRING & 8TH STREETS City Engineer Bob Miller reported that the light pole at the corner of Spring & 8th Streets has been repaired. It has been suggested that we install a new pole because the old one is not in that good of shape. BLOCKED DRIVEWAY Councilperson Andrew Williams called in for June Oliver a resident at 1413 Frances Drive concerning a blocked driveway. Police Chief Elliott said that he would look into this problem. PAGE 2 AUGUST 9, 1993 STREET CLOSINGS FOR ST. AUGUSTINE'S FESTIVA~ Mary Frye representing St. Augustine's Festival Committee requests street closings for Friday August 13, 1993 from 5:30 P.M.-Midnight for Chestnut Street between Locust & Walnut Streets, Locust Street between Maple Street & Chestnut Street. Street Commissioner George Trembly will block off the streets if Mary has someone else take them down. The Police Chief and the Fire Chief said that they have no problem with this. Director Matra made the motion to accept the street closings, seconded by Acting Board Member Donna Baird, and carried unanimously. STEAMBOAT DAYS FESTIVAL Pat Elder representing Steamboat Days Festival Committee reported that the Steamboat Days will be on September, 10~ 11, 12, 1993. (see copy for Steamboat Days Parade, Steamboat Days set up hours and hours.) The Police will take care of closing the streets for the Parade, the Stroll, the 5K Run. The rides will be in the same area as last year. Clean Up, George Trembly said that the Vendors will have to clean up their own oil. Mrs. Elder said that the clean-up procedure was put in the applications, and when they set-up they will receive a specific individual paper and they will have to have it displayed. Acting Board Member Donna Baird made the motion to accept the street closings and recommended changes for Steamboat Day's, seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously. DEED FOR BUTTONWOOD ROAD City Attorney Mike Giltenwater said that Attorney David Nachand representing Dr. Prentice sent him a deed for a short section of the road that goes through Buttonwood. Due to a surveying error this road was omitted from the dedicated plat. Building Commissioner Bill Gavin said that there is no problem with this. Mike Gillenwater is asking the Board to approve the Deed. Director Matra made the motion to accept the Deed for Buttonwood Subdivision Road, seconded by Acting Board Member Donna Baird, and carried unanimously. EVAPORATION RATE Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra requests the Boards approval with the Wyandot Foods for their agreed ?~ evaporation rate on their sewer bill. Director Matra made the motion to approve the ?~ Evaporation rate, seconded by Action Board Member Donna Baird, and carried unanimously. 3-WAY STOP FOLLOW-UP Police Chief Rick Elliott is reporting on a follow-up on the 3 way stop at Ruck and Ridgeway Drive, which was brought to Chief Elliotts attention again by Mrs. Leslie Zelli. We went back and re-evaluated this area and determined that it would cause more problems than solving them. If we made another 3 way stop it would be putting ~ School crossings in a 2 block area. We had Mr. Milt Clayton from the Greater Clark Schools survey it and he came up with the same findings as we did. So we will drop this suggestion. PAGE 3 AUGUST 9, 1993 MUNICH WELDING Street Commissioner George Trembly said that he received a letter from City Attorney Mike Gillenwater asking him to go over to Munich Welding. George said as of about an hour ago they were cleaning it up~ burning the pallets in the barrels, the area is looking better. George said that he will work on it after they get finished. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at 9:55 a.m.~ seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously. ATTES~T~ CLERK' AND TREASURER Board of Public Works meeting August 9, 1993 Booths'. Street closing: Spring Street to be closed from Court Avenue to Riverside at 6:00 AM.on Thursday, Sept.9. Side streets will remain open until?????. Set-up: Homer novelty will set up the booth structures from 8:00 to noon. Booth set up will be 12 noon to 3 PM, for one side of street, 3 PM to 6PM for other side. Hours of operation: Sept. 10, Noon to 11 PM Sept. 11, 10:30 to 11 PM Sept. 12, 10 AM to 6 PM Parade: Wi!! be held Thursday, September 9'at 6 PM. Proceed down Court Ave, south on Mulberry. Graham needs to be closed at approx. 4 PM from 8th Street one block south of Court. to Air Show: will be held prior to fireworks, Friday, Sept.ll. Two jumpers, will land at Overlook area at approx. 9:55. The ramp needs to be closed at 6 PM until after fireworks show, approx. 10:30 PM. ' Entertainment: Request use of one stage, to be used at Riverside and Spring Street. Other entertainment sites are Preservation Station and Warder Park (have permission from Parks Board.) Stroll: will be held Saturday, September 11 will start and end at St. Augustine Route is same. at 9 AM Church. SK run: will be held Saturday, September will start at Rose Hill School Route same as last year INB sponsor Street Banners: are ready. 11 at 8 AM
