OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
MONDAY AUGUST 2, 1993
Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M.,
and on call of the roil those members present were Mayor Parker,
Personnel and Safety Director Harold Lakeman~ and Sewage Collection
Office Director Jim Matra.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, City Engineer Bob
Miller, Street Commissioner George Trembly~ Plant Superintendent Larry
James, Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder, Animal Shelter Manager
Jan Wheatley, Vehicle Maintenance Director Mike Wathen, City Services
Coordinator Leslie Kavanaugh~ Parks Superintendent Rodger Caldweii~
Sewer Office Manager Bob Goldman, Administrative Assistant Donna
Metzger-Baird, and Clerk Alice Davis.
Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting
of July 86, 1993 as presented, seconded by Director Matra and carried
unanimously.

MOMENT OF SILENCE
Mayor Parker asked that everyone at this meeting
silence for Dale Richardson, a firefighter who died
29, 1993. His funeral will be today August 2, 1993.
SINK HOLES AT 518 GOYNE AVENUE

Sewer Plant Superintendent Larry James reported that he went up to 518
Goyne Avenue last Monday, and they poured concrete and hope this will
help stop the sink holes. Mrs. Maria Persons is satisfied with the
work.
EASEMENT VACATION
Mr. Tom Popp requests for an easement on part of lot #10B in
Buttonwood Subdivision plat 9, page 3?. Mr. Popp will appear in front
of the Council on August R3, 1993. We will need to receive letters
from all utilities, and Mr. Popp will have to advertise in the paper
for the easement vacation. Director Matra made the motion to grant
Mr. Popp the easement vacation on lot #108 in the Buttonwood
Subdivision, contingent upon letters from ail utilities, seconded by
Director Matra and carried unanimously.
RESIDENT PARKING
Mr. Donald Bishop~ 534 E. Court Avenue requests a resident parking
sign at his residence. Mayor Parker asked Assistant Police Chief
Charles Elder to have Lt. Dave Schmidt ~nvestigate this and bring his
recommendations back to the Board next week.

Cora Townsand, 939 E. Maple Street requested a resident parking sign~
this was tabled, she did not appear before the Board.
COUNCIL MEETING TIME CHANGE REMINDER
Mayor Parker reminded all the Department Heads that the Council
Meeting will be at 8:30 P.M. tonight rather than ?:30 P.M.
REEDS LANE
City Engineer Bob Miller reported that up on Reeds Lane there is a box
culvert that is caving in and needs to be fixed as soon as possible.
Bob said that if they can get it built up with steel, it will cost
$3600.00. Bob also requests a 3 ton weight limit sign put up. Mayor
Parker said that Bob needs to make up a special appropriation to go in
front of the Council at tonights meeting.
~LIPPED LIGHT
City Engineer Bob Miller reported that the signal light at the corner
of Spring and 8th Streets in front of Reeder's Cleaners was clipped by
a semi-trailer truck over the weekend. Bob Miller sent someone down
to attach a guide wire to keep it from falling down. Mayor Parker
told Bob Miller to make the necessary arrangements to have the light
pole fixed. We also need to mention this to the Council tonight.
Mayor Parker asked Assistant Police Chief Charles Elder to check to
see if an accident report was filed on this.
CONCERT IN THE PARK
Mayor Parker told Parks Superintendant Rodger Caldwell that he has had
good comments about the Concert in the Park program. Rodger said that
it lasted only 11 weeks this year, and we hope to expand it next year.
SEWER TAP-IN
Sewer Plant Superintendant Larry James reported that Paul Premier
Engineers is requesting that 4 more 8-plex apartment complexes on
Holmans Lane be put on our Sewers. Larry said that our sewers can
accommodate them. Director Lakeman made the motion to accept the
sewer tap-in for M & R Properties, seconded by Director Marra~ and
carried unanimously.
DUPLEXES ON WOODLAND COURT
Building Commissioner Bill Gavin reported that the Council gave
permission to Paul Speth for the development of duplexes going on at
Woodland Court. Mayor Parker asked if Mr. Speth's deplexes are in the
City, they are not, so he said that Mr. Speth will have to sign a
wavier saying that he will not go against any annexation of that area.

UNITED WAY
Administrative Assistant Donna Baird reported that Arby~s Restaurant
on Highway 62 will designate a cash register on Thursday August 5 &
12, 1993 to the pay ~0~ to the United Fund out of it.
STEAMBOAT DAYS FESTIVAL SKY DIVERS
Administrative Assistant ~onna Baird reported that she and Harold
Lakeman are on the Steamboat Days Festival Board and they need to meet
with Street Commiseioner George Trembly on Tuesday August 3, 1993 at
11:30 A.M. on the overlook. Donna said that we are having a group of
Sky Divers who will be here for the Steamboat Days Festival and we
need to make some arrangements, also Lt. Dave Schmidt will be there.
UNITED WAY
Harold Lakeman said that the United Way wants to meet with the Fire
and Police Departments next week. Assistant Police Chief Charles
Elder said that they will have to meet with the Police on all three
shifts.
PSI ENERGY RATE INCREASE
Mike Newman a representative of PSI Energy reported that they are
going to resume filing for the general rate increase. The rate
increase will probably be between 10-14~, and would not take effect
for a year or more. Mr. Newman said that this might help you for your
1995 budgets.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public
Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at
9:55a.m., seconded by Director Matra, and carried unanimously.
