HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-13-1994MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY JUNE 13,1994 Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr. called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were Mayor Raymond J. Parker Jr.~Safety Director Harold Lakeman, and Sewage Collection Office Director Jim Matra. Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavin, Street Commissioner George Trembly, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman,Interim Parks Manager Donnie Poole,Asst. Police Chief Charles Elder, Maintenance Foreman Michael Ewton,Interim Wastewater Treatment Manager Phil Thompson, Fire Chief Jerry Dooley, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Jr., and Clerk Lynne Kempf. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting of ~n~'~ 1994 as presented~ seconded by Director Matra and carried unanimously. Director Matra made the motion to approve the claims as presented: seconded by Director Lakeman: and carried unanimously. GRAHAM STREET CAVE-IN Mayor Parker declared an emergency on the cave in on Graham Street. Quotes will be looked over and action taken as quickly as possible. Director Lakeman made the motion to approve this request, seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously. Building Commissioner Gavin reported that the hedge has been cut 20 ft. back and Attorney Gilienwater says that is legal. TENTH STREET UPDATE Interim Wastewater Treatment Manager Street should be open Monday after made. Mayor Parker said we would look over the information packet. Page JUNE 13~1994 YOUTH SUMMER WORK PROGRAM Pat Elder spoke in regards to high school students working with various city departments. The program is to encourage students who are behind in their credits to attend two sessions of summer school and work in the summer work program. Interim Parks Superintendent Don Poole said he thought it was a good idea. There is no responsibility to the city as far as compensation or transportation. He said he would meet with her and set something up. SEWER TAP-IN Mary Lowe of 6009 Cart Road is requesting a sewer tap in there. Mayor Parker suggested that she get with Director Matra and get all the facts and see if it can be done. EXTENSION PERMIT James Carrico of 1655 E. Tenth Street asked permission to keep his tent up selling plants for 30 more days. Building Commissioner Gavin said the Ordinance reads that a tent permit is only allowed for 30 days. Mr. Parker apologized but said we have to follow the ordinance. Mr. Carrico has one week to vacate. ADA REQUEST AT 308 E. CHESTNUT Director Lakeman received a request from Mary Ann Hill, the Human Resource Manager at LifeSprings for a curb cut at Center Place, located at 308 E. Chestnut Street. Director Lakeman doesn't think it's needed. Director Lakeman made the motion to deny this request~ seconded by Director Marra~ and carried unanimously. CLEARSTREAM WAY Mayor Parker said he got a call from a man on Clearstream Way complimenting Bob Miller for a job well done on the catch basin on Clearsteam Way. RESIDENT PARKING REQUEST Director Lakeman received Street. Director Lakeman a request from Ralph Baird of 1312 E. told him the procedure. 9th ANIMAL SHELTER Director Lakeman got a call from Evon Miller saying she was bitten at the animal shelter on Friday. She said one of their cages was in bad shape. She has a couple of doctor bills she wants taken care of. Director Lakeman told her he would check into this and speak with City Attorney Gillenwater. Page 3 JUNE 13~ 199z$ 313 E. EIGHTH STREET Building Commissioner Gavin reported that he has an emergency situation at 319 E. 8th Street. The address has four apartments in it and a water leak upstairs caused the ceiling to cave in. Because there are several children who live there, Building Commissioner Gavin asked to go ahead and repair the plumbing. Director Matra made the motion to approve this request, seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously. INQUIRY Councilperson Wolpert inquired as to the microphones not working well in the Council chambers. Director Matra has talked with Building Superintendent Mark VanGilder and he said the system is going to be replaced in about 2 or 3 weeks. INQUIRY A resident of Spring Street asked if Spring Street paved soon.
