MONDAY AUGUST 12, 1996
Deputy to the Mayor Phil McCauley called the meeting to order at 9:30
A.M. in the absence of Mayor Thomas R. Galligan~ and on call of the
roll those members present were: Personnel Director Harold Lakeman,
and Safety Director Anthony Hatred.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Bill Gavln~ Street
Commissioner George Trembly, City Engineer Bob Miller, City Attorney
Anne Marie Sedwlck, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Police Chlef
Mike Pavey, Fire Chief Mike Smith, Assistant Fire Chief William Davis,
Vehlcle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Animal Shelter Director Jim
Glllenwater, Parks Superintendent Rick Elllott, Wastewater Treatment
Plant Manager Kendall Coleman, Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer
Jr., and Clerk Alice Davis.

Director Lakeman made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented,
seconded by Director Hatred and carried unanimously.
CITATION TO MR. AND MRS. DAVID BUfqRESS, 13017 LEAH
COURT
Building Commissioner Bill Gavin cited Mr. and Mrs. David Burress,
3017 Leah Court to appear before the Board of Public Works and Safety
today, they did not appear. Commissioner Gavin said that the citation
has been issured with a return Card and they did not return it, this
is not the first citation this situation started back in September
1995 about the swimming pool not being enclosed. City Attorney
Sedwick contacted them again on May 5s 1996. Commissioner Gavin sent
them a letter on August 5, 1996 to appear at the Board meeting today.
Commissioner Gavin recommends to file a suit against them.
commissioner GaVin said he will check again today to see if anymore
has been done.
SEWER BACK UP COMPL~IN~, DR. ELSA HADDAD, 1314 MISSOURI AVENUE
Dr. Elsa Haddad's_ . Haddad appeared before the Board with a
sewer backup complaint at 1314 Missouri Avenue, there was some damage
to the basement of his buidling and it keeps backing up. City
Engineer Bob Miller said the cause is the Hospitals new addition going
too close to the sewer and the ground moving. The problem has not
been corrected as of this morning. Deputy Mayor McCauley said we need
to send the Hospital a letter.

City Attorney Anne Marie Sedwick explained the Contract for Insight
Communications ~Co. needs to be r.enewed~ it wilt lapse on August 26,
1996, the Council should also ~act on this. Attorney Sedwick said we
are asking for a ~ month extension on the exhisting contract. Sandra
Mattingly, General Manager appeared before <the Board and~explalned
some of the new additions that will be available on November 1, 1996.
Director.Lakeman made the motion to extend the Insight Communications
Contract for another 6 month from August 26, 1996 to February 26,
1997, seconded by Director ~arrod, and carried unanimously.
INNER CITY ROAD CLAIMS
Donna Kammeyer, representing the Redevelopment Department presented 2
claims for Jacobl, Toombs and Lanz for $13,634.40 which we pay the
whole amount. The Inner City Portion is S24,470.00 and we pay half
whlch is S12,235.00, for a total of S25~869.40. Director Lakeman made
the motion to approve the 2 claims for Jacobl~ Toombs and Lanz,
seconded by Director Harrod, and carried unanimously.
STOP SIGN AT 9TH AND FULTON STREETS
Mike Ewton introduced ~eorge his neighbor who is ahead of the Block ?
Watch Program. George said they are residents of the 800 block!
between Mechanic and Penn Streets and the 900 block is included in theI
block watch. George has petitions signed by the residents and they
are requesting a stop sign at the corner of 9th and Fulton Streets.
Director Lakeman made the motion, to approve the stop slgn at the
corner of 9th and Fulton Streets~ seconded by Director Harrod, and
carried unanimously.
HEAD START.,AWARENESS ON SATURDAY, AUGUST-:17TH. ~.'~
Jennifer Welsh received permission from the Board to close E. Court
Avenue at Warder Park from 6:00pm-ll:~0pm on Saturday August 17, 1996.
Ms. Welsh is requesting that the 100 block of E. court ~Avenue be
closed from 8:00am-ll:0~pm on Saturday, August 17, 1996. Director
Harrod. made the motion to approve closing the 100 block of E. Court
Avenue on Saturday August 17, 1996 from 8:0~am-ll:00pm, seconded by
Director Lakema~, and carried unanimously
FIRE DEPARTMENT PROMOTIONS
Fire Chief Mike smith reported the Fire Department has hired two new
employees, they are: Shawn Grant and Ronnie Bishop, they will replace
the two retirees. The new promotions are Kevin Lindsey promoted to
Capt., Marty Stengal to Capt., Joe Lee to Lt.~ Denny Frantz to Lt.,
Robbie Jackson to SAt., Sam Veals to SAt., effective today. Director
Lakeman made the motion to approve the promotions, seconded by
Director Harrod~ and carried unanimously.

SEWER TAP-IN
Steve Westerfield is requesting a sewer tap-in for a new residence in
Utica.. Director Harrod made the motion to approve the sewer tap-in,
seconded by Director Lakeman, and carried unanimously.
WAMZ BASS TOURNAMENT
Parks Superintendant Rick Elliott has a request from WAMZ radio
station to have a Bass Tournament at Duffys Landing Sunday September
29~ 1996 from 7:~0am-4:0~pm. They will use the City of
Jeffersonvllle's name on the radio, flyers and the news paper.
Duffy's Landing will be open to the public. Director Harrod made the
motion to approve the bass tournament, seconded by Director Lakeman~
and carried unanimously.
STOP SIGN AT RIVER CITY PARK AND SILO RIDGE SUBDIVISION
Parks Superintendant Rick Elliott reported he talked to City Engineer
Bob Miller about a stop sign on Kleins property at River City Park
Drive into Silo Ridge Subdivision. Rick said it should be the
developers responsibility to put up the stop sign. Engineer Miller
said a STOP SIGN AHEAD should be put up ahead of the actual stop. Bob
said he will put up the sign and call Mr. Klein and have him pay for
it. Bob and George will put take care of it.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public
Works and Safety, Director Lakeman made the motion to adjourn at
