HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-10-1997 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY MARCH 10,1997 In the absence of Mayor Thomas R. Galligan, Planning and Development Director Jim Urban chaired the meeting. The meeting was called to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller filling in for Director Lakeman and Safety Director Anthony Harrod. Also' present were: Street Commissioner George Trembly, City Engineer Bob Miller, Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman, Planning and Development Director Jim Urban, Parks Superintendent Rick Elliott, Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Kendall Coleman, Fire Chief Mike Smith, Police Chief Mike Pavey, Animal Shelter Director Jim Glllenwater, Wastewater Treatmemt Plant Assistant Scott Timmerman, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Building Commissioner William Gavin, and Clerk Lynne Kempf. Director Harrod made the motion to approve the minutes of February 24~1997 seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. Director Harrod made the motion to approve the payrolls as presented, seconded City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. Director Harrod made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by CitY Engineer Miller and carried unanimQusly. BIDS Bids were received on a Backhoe from Whayne Supply $51,284.00, Hunt Tractor $46,298.00, and New Albany Ford S45,918.00. Bids were also received on a Paint Striper from MGI #34,325.00, Blatz Paint $21,675.00, and Sherwin Williams $24~850.00~ One bid was received from Kentuckiana Truck Sales on a truck for $39,992~00 All bids will be looked over and~hen awarded the following Monday. Director Harrod made the motl6~"~to .. table the award of the bids until the next BPW meeting on 3-17-97, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. 711 MARTHA AVENUE Attorney Frank Ballard, representing his parents Mt.and Mrs. Frances C. Ballard who live at 711 Martha Avenue stated that on February 17th they had sewage backup. Kentuckiana Services submitted a bill to the Ballards for the clean up caused by the back up. Mrs. Ballard paid S250.00 towards their services on the day of cleanup. The balance on the bill of $485.00 is still owed. Attorney Ballard on behalf of his parehts is requesting to submit a claim to the City to pay for these expensed incurred. Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Kendall Coleman said that City Attorney Sedwick's directions are that on auy sewer backup the City will not claim responsibility. He said a tort claim would have to be filed. Attorney Ballard said he would proceed with a tort claim. There will be further discussion on the city's policy pertaining to residential sewage backup problems.
