HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-27-1998MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, JULY 27, 1998 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman. Also present were: Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Fire Chief Mike Smith, Street Commissioner Bobby Ervin, Building Commissioner Larry Decker,Parks Director Rick Elliott, Police Chief Mike Pavey,Animal Shelter Manager Rick Broy, Kevin Wright of EMC, City Attorney Anne Made Galligan, and Clerk Lynne Kempf. Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes as presented, seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman, and carded unanimously. RESIDENT ONLY PARKING Victor Singer of 1246 Firwood Court asked the Board to approve a residenrt only parking sign there. Sewage Office Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the sign, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. ALLEY VACATION Timothy Bowles of 629 Mechanic Street came before the Board to ask that the alley be vacated beside his house. He said it is not being maintained. Mayor Galligan said he would need to go out and look at this before making a decision. City Attorney Galligan said the alley has to be vacated by the City Council if that is the final decision. City Engineer Miller made the motion to table this until a later date, seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. CITATION Hattie Huff-Malone of 1016 Locust Street was cited previously in regards to her house at 1016 Locust Street. Building Commissioner Decker said the house hasn't been improved. Mayor Galligan would like a meeting set up with Ms. Malone. CITATION Kevin Abrahamson was cited to the Board because his property at 639 Main Street hasn't been improved sufficiently. Building Commissioner Decker wants to give him a date to finish the work. Mayor Galligan said he needs to clean up the back of the house and tear offthe back of the house. Mr. Abrahamson said the weeds would be taken out in the coming week. Mayor Galligan told him to get the property appraised and that the Department of Redevelopment might be interested in buying it. Mayor Galligan gave him a week to get the weeds cleaned out or the City will come in and do it and charge him. PEDDLERS PERMIT Todd Benmd of 604 E. Utica Street in Sellersburg asked the Board's approval to sell encyclopedias door to door. Sewage Office Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the peddler's permit, seconded by City Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. CITATION Building Commissioner Decker took pictures at 726 Goyne Avenue. A man next door to this address complained that he can't see the street to back out because of her plants there. He recommends tabling this until further complaints are made. CAR DAMAGE Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Ewton told the Board Keith Kinley of 22 Center Street called him to inquire as to whether the City was going to pay for the damage to his car. Mayor Galligan said that the City was not going to do anything and that it's Mr. Kinley's responsibility. PATROL IN BUTTONWOOD Mayor Galligan asked Chief Pavey to step up patrols in Buttonwood (near Estopinal's house) because of people speeding. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:00 a.m., seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carried unanimously.
