JEFFERSONVILLE, iNDIANA MONDAY, OCTOBER 18, 1999
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members
present were: Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman and City Engineer Bob Miller.
Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Planning and
Development Director Jana Ecker, Personnel Director Ellis, Officer Rodden, Vehicle
Maintenance Supervisor Ewton, Animal Control Officer Henderson, Wastewater Treatment Plant
Director Traylor, Assistant Director of Redevelopment Duggins, City Attorney Galligan, and
Clerk Lynne Mayfield.
Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the the minutes of 10-11-99 as presented,
seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously.
Engineer Miller made the motion t° approve the sewage claim as presented, seconded by
Manager Goldman and can/ed unanimously.
PARKING PROBLEM
Planning and Development Director Ecker said she had received a complaint about the parking
problems at 300 E. Tenth Street (at the intersection with Locust St.) involving the car lot being
operated there. She sent a letter to the property owner, (who appeared before the Board) of the
complaint and violation of cars being parked on the city's Locust St. right of way. A neighbor by
the car lot whose house fronts on Locust Street appeared before the Board because she only has
one small space on Locust Street to park her car with no extra spaces for visitors. The property
owner requested 30 minute parking signs for Locust Street. After much discussion, Manager
Goldman made the motion to approve 2 hour parking on the Thornton side of Locust Street
between 10th Street and the end of the right of way and no parking on the other side of Locust
Street from Tenth Street to the end of the car lot, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried
unanimously.
TREE REMOVAL
James Durrett, who owns the property at 335 Spring Street would like to put up a new marquee
at the old LeRose Theatre, but in order to do so a tree needs to be removed. He said the Historical
Society has not given him permission to put up the marquee. Mayor Galligan told Mr. Durrett to
go before the Historical Society for permission to put up the marquee and get a Certificate of
Appropriateness and then the City will remove the tree.
HALLOWEEN DOWNTOWN
Parks Supt. Elliott asked the Board to approve changing Halloween Downtown on October 25th
from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. to 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve
changing Halloween Downtown to 5:30-7:30 p.m. on October 25, seconded by Engineer Miller
and carded unanimously.
INTRODUCTION
City Engineer Miller introduced Bill Dixon as the new Traffic Engineer and Asst. City Engineer.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, Engineer
Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:10 a.m., seconded by Manager Goldman and carded
unanimously.
