SAFETY
OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
NOVEMBER 20, 2000
Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the roll those
members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Councilperson Frantz.
Also present were: Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Wastewater Treatment
Director Traylor, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Safety Director Rodden,
Redevelopment Assistant Director Duggins, Planning and Zoning Director Ecker, Street
Commissioner Grant, Animal Shelter Director Keller, Parks Superintendent Elliott, City
Attorney Galligan, Councilperson Les Merkley, Asst. Fire Chief Bill Davis, and Clerk
Lynne Mayfield.
City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by
Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
BID OPENING
Jorge Lanz of Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz opened bids on the traffic signal for N.A. Chas.
Pike, Holman Lane and Armstrong Road. The bids are as follows: Arrow Electric-
$117,941.52 and TransTech- $93,147.00. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve
the bid of TransTech in the amount of $93, 147.00 contingent upon review of the bid for
the required documents, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimoiusly.
JINGLE BELL CHASE RUN
Louisa Henson appeared before the Board to ask that Southern Indiana Ave., Market
Street, and Missouri to 6th Street be closed for the Jingle Bell Chase Run on December 9,
2000 starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 9:45 a.m. Engineer Miller made the motion to
approve the street closures, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
ALLEY VACATION
John McCoy of Isgrigg and Associates spoke to the Board on behalf of Charles Moreland
who would like a 12 ft. portion of alley offKehoe Lane to be vacated. Attorney Galligan
said this will have to be brought before the City Council and will need to be advertised in
the newspaper. Attorney Galligan said he should seek legal representation on this matter.
PERSONNEL ISSUE
Street Commissioner Granat asked the Board to approve raising one of his mechanics
from $12.36 an hour to $12.96 per hour. Councilperson Frantz made the motion to
approve the salary increase from $12.36 to $12.96, seconded by Engineer Miller and
carried unanimously.
PERSONNEL ISSUE
Police Chief Pavey gave notice that he has advised one of his patrolman of disciplinary
action to be taken against him. Police Chief Pavey said the patrolman has been notified
and has five days to request a hearing.
ROADBLOCK
Safety Director Rodden said the Clark County FOP would like to hold a roadblock at Ice
Cream Willie's on Friday, November 24, 2000. Mayor Galligan said the area is under
construction so a roadblock isn't possible at this time at that location.
RESIDENT PARKING
Police Chief Pavey recommended resident only parking at 316 Meigs Avenue and the
Meaghan Pointe Condos at Spring Street and Riverside.
PARKING PROBLEM
Larry Purcell of 1508 Mitchell Avenue appeared before the Board in regard to people
parking in front of his driveways. Police Chief Pavey will check out the situation and
bring back to Board next week.
LEAF PICKUP
Councilperson Merkley asked the Mayor about the schedule for leaf pickup. Mayor
Galligan said the leaf vacuum truck should be here in about a week and a schedule will
be established then.
There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety,
City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:00 A.M., seconded by
Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
