HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-17-2000MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE~ INDIANA JULY 17, 2000 In Mayor Galligan's absence, City Attorney Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 A.M., and on call of the r011 those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Councilperson Frantz. Also present were: Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Wastewater Treatment Director Traylor, Vehicle Maintenance Foreman Mike Ewton, Safety Director Rodden, Councilperson Ellis, Wastewater Treatment Assistant Director Wilkey, Street Commissioner Grant, Redevelopment Assistant Director Duggins, Manager Goldman, City Attorney Galligan, Personnel Director Ellis, Police Chief Pavey, Fire Chief Mike Smith, and Clerk Lynne Mayfleld. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. City Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 6-12-00, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. STREET SEWER REHABILITATION BID Jorge Lanz of Sacobi, Toombs, and Lanz said he has looked over the bids and recommends that the low bid of Reynold's Construction be accepted. Reynold's total bid was $1,915,832.00.Engineer Miller made the motion to approve Reynold Constmction's bid, seconded by Councilpers6n Frantz and carried unanimously. JOHN KENYON EYE CENTER Personnel Director Ellis said that Dr. John of the John Kenyon Eye Center is again offering RK and Laser Eye Surgery to city employees at a special rate. Personnel Director Ellis asked the Board to approve a three year contract with the John Kenyon Eye Center. Councilperson Frantz made the motion to approve the three year contract with the John Kenyon Eye Center, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. HAMBURG PIKE Engineer Miller made the motion to allow Larry Rice Construction to close Hamburg Pike from 9a.m-12 noon sometime this week, seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously. 329 LOCUST Fire Chief Smith told the Board that there is an uninhabited house at 329 Locust Street that is overgrown and in disrepair. Building Commissioner Decker said he would go out and look at it. TERRACE LAWN Planning and Zoning Director Ecker said that HNTB has said that no guardrail is required for safety purposes on the Terrace Lawn Project. HNTB also says that no handrails are required for the stairs. Director Ecker, along with Jorge Lanz say that the guardrall and handrails are needed for safety purposes. Director Ecker has requested funds from Greenway to pay for the guardrails. She said hopefully the funds will be approved this Thursday. Jorge Lanz said that this project has had many design flaws from day one and he is not willing to build an unsafe structure. H~ said he is still investigating the safety applications and aesthetics involved. PERRIN LANE Street Commissioner Grant said he received a call from a lady inquiring about the widening of Perrin Lane. The Board said that widening the road is a ways off but that repaving will be done in the meantime. POLK STREET Nellie Knowland said Polk Street needs a street light. Engineer Miller said he will contact Cinergy. Nellie said a light is needed in front of Wyandot also. Engineer Miller said it would be taken care of. ALLEY NAME Planning and Zoning Director Ecker said a lady requested that the alley that runs along Court Ave. named Franklin Square be re-named Police Alley. The board will take under advisement. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 9:45 A.M., seconded by Councilperson Frantz and carried unanimously.
