HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-22-2000MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2000 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:30 a.m., and on call of the roll those members present were: City Engineer Bob Miller, and Sewage Office Manager Bob Goldman. Also present were: Fire Chief Mike Smith, Police Chief Mike Pavey, Personnel Director Ellis, Animal Control Officer Henderson, Safety Director Rodden, Street Commissioner Grant,Wastewater Treatment Assistant Director Traylor, Building Commissioner Larry Decker, Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Mike Ewton, City Attorney Galligan, and Clerk Lynne Mayfield. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the minutes of 2-7--00 and 2-14-00 seconded by Manager Goldman and canSed unanimously. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the claims as presented, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. SEWER BACKUP Craig Banks of 1511 Clareview Drive spoke to the Board in regard to damages he incurred due to sewer back-up in his basement. Mr. Banks turned in estimates of the damage to City Attorney Galligan in the amount of $2,253.50. She said she would have to research whether or not he can be reimbursed for lost work time. Mayor Galligan said he can't guarantee that this problem will be fixed anytime soon. The Mayor suggested that Mr. Banks take his basement toilet out for the time being. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve reimbursements to Mr. Banks for damages ofup to $2,253.50, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. SEWER BACKUP Alfred Thompson of 1303 Sportsman Drive came before the Board in regard to raw sewage back up in his basement. He would like to be reimbursed for damages. Mayor Galligan told Mr. Thompson to get the invoices to Attorney Galligan on the damages. JOE JACKSON PROPERTY City Attorney Galligan said she has been in contact with Mr. Jackson numerous times and he has spoken with his appraiser and the reports that were given have been reaffirmed. Attorney Galligan said the initial damages of $3,763.00 awarded to Mr. Jackson are for a permanant right of way and a temporary easement. Attorney Galligan gave Mr. Jackson a hand delivered notice of this meeting for his remonstrance but Mr. Jackson said he probably would not attend and is satisfied with the amount set by the appraisers. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the damage amount of $3,763.00, seconded by Engineer Miller and carded unanimously. DRAIN PLAN REVIEW City Attorney Galligan has reviewed the Drainage Plan Review agreement with Omni Engineering for their sewers. Engineer Miller made the motion to approve the Drainage Plan Review Agreement, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. 1913 ½ LARKSPUR City Attorney Galligan said the property at 1913 ½ Larkspur has been appraised and is now ready for bids to be taken. 1111 WATT STREET Pete Newsom owns the property at 1111 Watt Street which has been cited by Building Commissioner Decker for being unsafe. There have been numerous citations on this property since 1995. Mr. Newsom agreed the building should be removed but is not sure he can do so in 15 days.Manager Goldman made the motion to give Mr. Newsom 15 days to remove the structure or the city will remove it on March 9, 2000, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. 1113 AND 1115 WATT STREET Building Commissioner Decker said these two properties have been purchased by Charles Kemper. If Mr. Kemper doesn't Contact Building Commissioner Decker and let him know his plans for the houses he will send him an unsafe building letter. HANDICAP PARKING SIGN James and Mary Callahan of 811 Colonial Park Drive, Apt. 1 requested a handicap parking sign. Manager Goldman made the motion to approve the sign contingent upon police approval, seconded by Engineer Miller and carried unanimously. Engineer Miller made the motion to take the bids under advisement for one week, seconded by Manager Goldman and carded unanimously. PAY RAISE Engineer Miller made the motion to gwe a 75 cent raise to Jason Reisert, seconded by Manager Goldman and carried unanimously. There being no further business to come before the Board of Public Works and Safety, City Engineer Miller made the motion to adjourn at 10:30 a.m.. seconded by Sewage Office Manager Goldman and carried unanimously.
