BEFORE THE COMMON COUNCIL
FOR THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE
STATE OF INDIANA
IN THE MATTER OF THE
VETO OF O .R._D_ INANCE NO.
2006-OR-.~_
STATEMENT OF REASONS
Comes now the Mayor for the City of Jeffersonville, Robert L. Waiz, Jr., having
reviewed Ordinance No. 2006-OR-_~, hereby vetoes said ordinance and in support
states the following:
1. That Indiana law does not allow the designation of the Clerk-Treasurer as the
city's purchasing agency.
2. That purchasing is purely an executive function to ensure there is not a
disruption of the day-to-day operations of city government and services.
3. That the ordinance attempts to usurp the mayor's inherit and exclusive
authodty to enter into contracts on behalf of the city.
