AN ORDINANCE REPLACING ORDINANCE 2002-OR-11,
AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHIING LONGEVITY FOR CITY
EMPLOYEES OTHER THAN POLICE AND FIRE OFFICIALS
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville has
previously enacted longevity for its Police and Fire Officials and has now
determined that a longevity plan should be authorized for other full time
employees of the City of Jeffersonville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of
the City of Jeffersonville that, except for Police and Fire Officials, whose benefits
are set forth in a separate plan, there is hereby authorized longevity for full-time
employees of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana pursuant to the terms and
schedules contained in the following sections:
Section 1: Determination of Eligibility: Years of service for the purpose of
computing longevity pay shall include and be allowed only for years spent in full
time and uninterrupted employment with the City of Jeffersonville. No elected
officials shall receive longevity benefits. Any time worked which is temporary in
nature or seasonal, even if full time hours were scheduled during its duration as a
temporary or seasonal position, or any time worked in a temporary or permanent
part time position will not be counted toward eligible years of service for
longevity computation purposes. When initially calculating longevity in 2000, as
determined under this section, prior years of service will be grand fathered. If an
employee terminates employment with the City of Jeffersonville for any reason
the employee will lose all years of service. If an employee leaves the City of
Jeffersonville and returns at a later date the employee will start over with no years
of service. Longevity benefits shall be paid to eligible employees only after that
employee has been a full time eligible employee for three years. The maximum
years of service eligible for computing longevity pay shall be twenty years.
Section 2: Benefit Pay Date:. Longevity benefits due an employee for a longevity
benefit year are authorized to be paid every pay period or on the second pay
period in December.
Section 3: Longevity Benefit year: The longevity benefit year for determination
of years of service shall be on a calendar year basis. Anniversary dates wi!l not be
used, rather full calendar years of service. If an employee leaves prior to the
benefit pay date, the longevity pay shall be pro-rated based upon the number of
pay periods worked.
Section 4: Longevity Benefit Schedule: .The amounts payable for longevity shall
be calculated according to the following schedule:

This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its adoption, and retroactive
to January 1, 2001.
