HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001-OR-16ORDINANCE NO. 2001-OR- i ~ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ~ 35.10 [C] OF THE JEFFERSONVILLE MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERNING SICK LEAVE WHEREAS, ~35.10 of the Jeffersonville Municipal Code (the "Code") provides that city' employees accrue ten (10) work/ng days of sick leave per year and may accrue sick leave up to forty (40) days after five years of employment; and WHEREAS, 635.10 ICI of the Code provides that if an empIoyee is absent from work because of illness more than four (4) consecutive days, the department head will require a doctor's certificate from the employee, and that if the doctor's certificate is not presented, the employee will not receive sick leave Compensation, no matter how many days the employee has accumulated for sick leave; and WHEREAS, some departments are experiencing problems with employees using sick leave as vacation time leaving the departments understaffed and unable to properly perform their duties. NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDAINED that [35.10 (C) of the Code is hereby amended to read as follows: If an employee is absent fr°m work on sick leave more than two consecutive days, the department head will require a doctor's certificate from the employee verifying the reason for the leave. If an acceptable doctor's certificate is not presented, the employee will not receive sick leave compensation, regardless of the number of days the employee has accumulated for sick leave. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval. Passed this ATTEST: day of~, 2001. Thomas R.
