VEHICULAR PARKING
An Drdinance Regulating the Parking of Motor Vehicles upon
the Streets, Alleys, and Thouroughfares of the City of Jeffer-
sonville~ Indiana.
Be it hereby Ordained by the Common Council of the City
of Jeffersonville, Indiana:
Section One.
Standing or Parking Close to Curb.
Except as otherwise provided in this Ordinance every Vehicle
stopped or parked upon a roadway where there are adjacent curbs
shall be so stopped or parked with the right hand wheals of such
vehicle parallel to and within 12 inches of the right-hand curb.
Section Two.
Angle Parkin8m
Angle or Diagonal Parking is permitted only upon Court Ave.,
between Pearl Street on the West and Meigs Avenue on the East,
except on the North side of Court Avenue between Pearl and Spring
Streets.
No person shall park or stand a vehicle other than parallel
to the curb except in the above described location in this city.
Section Three.
Stopping~ standin8 or Parking Prohibited.
No Signs required.
No person shall stop, stand or park a vehicle except when
necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance
with law, or the directions of a Police Officer or Traffic-Control
device in any of the following places:
1. On a sidewalk.
In front of a public or private driveway.
3. Within an intersection.
4. Within 15 (fifteen) feet of a fire hydrant.
5. On a Cross Walk.
6. Within twenty (20) feet of a cross walk.

Within thirty (30) feet upon the approach to any flashing
beacon~ stop sign or traffic control signal located at
the side of the roadway.
8. Within fifty (50) feet of the nearest rail of a Railroad
Crossing.
9. Within twenty (20) feet to the driveway to any Emergency
Vehicle Grage or Parking Space, and on the opposite
side of the street of said driveway or space for the
same entrance.
10. Alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction
when stopping, standing or parking would obstruct
traffic.
11. On the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked
at the edge of curbe of a streed. (Double Parking)
12. Upon any bridge or other eleva~d structure upon a
highway or within a highway tunnel.
13. At any place where official signs prohib~e~toppingo
No person shall move a vehicle not lawfully under his control
into any such prohibted area or away from a curb such distance
as is unlawful.
Section Four.
Parking Not to Obstruct Traffic.
No person shall park any vehicle upon a street, other than
an alley, in such manner or under such conditions as to leave
available less than 10 (ten) feet of the width of the roadway
for the free movement of vehicular traffic.
Section Five.
Parking in Alleys°
No Person shall park a Vehicle within an Alley in such
a manner or under such conditions as to leave available less
than ten (10) feet of the width of t~e.~r?kdway for the free
movement of vehicular traffic: and nD'person shall stop, stand
or park a vehicle within an alley in such a position as to
block the driveway entrance to any abutting property.
Section Six.
Parkin~ for Certain Purposes Prohibited.
No person shall park a vehicle upon any roadway, street,
or alley for the principal purpose of:
1. Displaying such vehicle for sale.
2. Repairing or lubricating said vehicle.

Sectiem-Seven.
Parking Adjacent To Schools.
The Board of Public Works and Safety is hereby authorized
to erect signs indicating "No Parking" upon either or both sides
of any Street adjacent to any school property when such parking
would, in their opinion, interfere with traffic or create a
hazardous situation.
When "Official" signs are erected indicating "No Parking"
upon either side of a street adjacent to any school property
as authorized herein, no person shall park a vehicle in any such
designated place.
Section Eight.
Parking Prohibited.
Ail vehicular Parking is hereby prohibited according to
the following schedule~
1. Sparks Avenue - btw.

2. Graham Street - btw.
3. Graham Street - btw.
Side)
Spring St. & Missouri Ave. (North
7th & 8th Streets (East Side)
Court Ave. & Chestnut Sro (East
4. Tenth Street - btw. Spring St. & Western Ave. (North
Side)
5. Morningside Drive - Entire Length - ~BOTH SIDES)
6. Penn Street - btw. 7th and 10th Streets - (East Side)
7. Market Street - btw. Mechanic & Jackson St. (South Side)
8. Riverside Drive - btw. Spring & Watt Streets (South Side)
9. Crestview Court - btw. Park Pl. & 8th Street (East Side)
10. Watt Street - Btw. Court and 7th Street - (East Side)
Section Nine.
No Stopping - Standing - Or ParRing near Hazardous or Congested
Places...
The Board of Public Works & Safety is hereby authorized to
determine and designate by proper signs places not exceeding
One Hundred (100) feet in length in which stopping, standing
or parking of vehicles would create an expecially hazardous
condition or would cause delay in traffic.
When Official Signs are Erected at Hazardous or Congested
Places as authorized herein no person shall stop, stand or park
a vehicle in any such designated place.
Section Ten.
Public Carrier Stop and Stands.
The Board of Public Works & Safety is hereby authorized and
required to establish bus ~ops, bus.~tands, taxicab stands and

stands for other passenger common-carrier motor vehicles on such
public streets in such places and in such numbers as they shall
determine to be of the greatest benefit and convenience to the
public,~and every such bus stop, §uSe stand, taxicab stand or
other stand shall be designated by appropriate signs.
Section Eleven.
Application of Regulations.
The provisions of this Ordinance prohibiting the standing
or parking of a motor vehicle shall apply at all times or at
those times herein specified or as indicated on official signs
except when it is necessary to stop a vehicle to avoid conflict
with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a
police officer or official traffic-control devise.
Section Twelve.
Parking Time Limited on Certain Streets.
When signs are erected in each block giving notice thereof,
no person shall park a vehicle for longer than two (2) hours at
any time between the hours of 6:00 A.M. and 8:00 P.M. of any
day as described in the following schedule:
1. Tenth Street - Btw. Spring St. & Western Ave° (South Side)
2. Riverside Drive - Btw. Spring & Walnut str~ (North Side)
When signs are erected giving notice thereo~ no person
shall park a vehicle on the North side of Market Street between
Mel~s Avenue and Main Street between the hours of ~ A.M. to 9 A.Mo
and 2 P oM. to 4 P.M.
Section Thirteen..
Parking Signs Required,
Whenever by this or any other Ordinance of this City any
Parking Time limit is imposed or Parking is Prohibited on Designated
Streets it shall be the duty of the Board of Public Works &
Safety to erect appropriate signs giving Notice thereof and
no Such Regulations shall be effective unless said signs are
erected and in place at the time of any alleged Offense.
Section Fourteen.
Repeal.
The following Ordinances which concern the Parking of
Motor Vehicles is hereby repealed: 806, 1091, 1061, 1215, t306,
1395, 1480, 1472, 1412, 1523o Ail Ordinances or parts of Ordianances
in conflict with or inconsistant with the provisions of this
Ordianance are hereby repealed, except that this repeal shall
not effect or prevent the prosecution or punishment of any person
for any act done or committed in violation of any Ordinance hereby
repealed prior to the effect of thl~s Ordinance.

Penalty.
Unless another penalty is expressly provided by law, every
person receiving a citation under this Ordinance shall pay to
the Officer on duty at the Jeffersonville Police Headquarters
an assessment of One Dollar ($1.00) if paid within seventy-two
(72) hours of the issuance of said Citation.
If a citation under this Ordinance is not paid within
72 hours of the issuance of said citation, the recipient upon
conviction shall be punished by a fine of not more than Ten
Dollars ($10.00) and not less than One Dollar ($1.00).
Section Sixteen,~,
Passage.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, approval and legal publication°

The Restrictions on Parking in Regards to Loading Zones
is covered by the Parking Meter Ordinances.
The Laws which gives the authority to Police Officers
for Impounding a Motor Vehicle in violation of this
