An Ordi~nce Amending Ordinance No. 1622 and
Section 11 of the City Code for the Purpose
of Regulating the Operation and Parking of
Motor Vehicles upon the Streets, Alleys and
Thoroughfares of the City of Jeffersonville,
Indiana.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE,
CLARK COUNTY, INDIANA:
Section One.
Standing or Parking Close to Curb.
Except as otherwise provided in this Ordinance every Vehicle
stopped or parked upon a roadway where there are adjacent curbs
shall he so stoped or parked with the right hand wheels of such
vehicle parallel to and within 12 inches of the right-hand curb.
'Section Two.
Angle Parking...
Anglesor Diagonal Parking is permitted only upon Court Ave.,
between Locust Street on the West and Meigs Avenue on the East, in
those area's so designated.
No person shall park or stand a vehicle other than parallel
to the curb except in the above described location in this city.
Section Thr~e.
Stopping, standing or Parking Prohibited.
No Signs required.
No person shall stop, stand oK park a vehicle except when
necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance
with law, or the ~irections of a POlice office or Traffic-Control
device in any of the following pla~es: ..
1. On a sidewalk.
2. In front of a public or private driveway.
3. Within an intersection.
4. Within 15 (fifteen) feet of a fire hydrant.
5. On a Cross Walk.
6. Within twenty (20) feet of a cross walk.
7. Within thirty (30) feet upon the approach to any f~ashing
beacon, stop sign or trafficecontrol signal lodated at
the side of the roadway.
8. Within fifty (50) feet of the Nearest rail of a Railroad
Crossing.

9. Within twenty (20) feet to the driveway to any Emergency
Vehicle Garage or Parking Space, a~d on the opposite~e
of the street of said driveway or space for the same
entrance.
10. Alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction
when stopping, standing or parking would obstruct traffic.
11. On the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked
at the edge of curb or a street. (Double Parking)
12. Upon any bridge or other elevated structure upon a highway
or within a highway tunnel.
13. At any place or location where official signs prohibit
stopping or parking.
14. In parking areas designated for handicapped persons unless
the operator or a passenger is handicapped.
15. In those areas marked and designated as fire lanes.
Section 3-A.
Semi-trailer trucks, that is tractors with trailers attached,
shall not park on the public streets or alleys of the city except
for the?purpose of unloading the cargo from such trucks.
In all locations where lines have been painted on the pavement
designating parking places or spots, vehicles must be parked within
those lines and it is hereby declared a parking violation to park
across the li~es when parallel parking or to straddle the lines
for diagonal or straight in parking.
Section 4.
Parking in Streets or Alleys.
No person shall park a Vehicle in a street or alley in such
a manner or under such conditions as to leave available less than
ten (10) feet of the width of the roadway for the free movement
of vehicular traffic, and no person shall stop, stand or park a
vehicle in a street or alley in such a position as to block the
driveway entrance to any abutting property.
Section 5.
Parking for Certain Purposes Prohibite~.
No person shall park a vehicle upon any roadway,
alley for the principal purpose of:
1. Displaying such vehicle for sale.
2. Repairing or lubricating said vehicle.

Section 6.
Parking Adjacent To Schools.
The Board of Public Works and Safety is hereby authorized
to errect signs indicating "No Parking" upon either or both sides
of any Street adjacent to any school property when such parking
would, in their opinion, interfere wi~h traffic or create a hazardous
situation.

When "Official" signs are erected indicating "No Parking"
upon either side of a streetaadjacent to any school property as
authorized herein, no person shall park a vehicle in any such
designated place.
Section
Parking Prohibited.
All vehicular Parking is hereby prohibited according to the
following schedule:
1. Sparks Avenue - btw. Spring St. & Missouri Ave. (North
Side)
2. Graham Street between 8th Street and Market on east side.
3. Tenth Street between Spring and Main Streets.
4. Morningstde.~ Drive for entire length both sides.
5. Penn Street between 7th and 10th Streets East side.
6. Market Street between Graham and Main Streets South Side.
7. Riverside Drive between Spring & Watt Streets South side.
8. Crestview Court between Park Place & 8th Street East side.
9. Ewing Lane between 8th Street and Utica Pike West side.
10. Charlestown Avenue between Division and Main Street South side.
No Stopping Standing - Or Parking near Hazardous or Congested
Places.
The Board of Public Works & Safety is hereby authorized to
determine and designate by proper signs places not exceeding One
Hundred (100) feet in length in which stopping, standing or parking
of vehicles would create an especially hazardous condition or would
cause delay in traffic~:
When Official Signs are Erected at Hazardous or Congested
Places as authorized herein no person shall stop, stand or park
a vehicle in any such designated place.
SectionS.
Public Carrier Stop and Stands.
The Board of Public Works & Safety is hereby authorized and
required to establish bus stops, bus stands, taxicab stands and
stands for other passenger common-carrier motor vehicles on such
public streets in such places and in such numbers as they shall
determine to be of the greatest benefit and =onvenience to the
public, and every such bus stop, bus stand, taxicab stand or other
stand shall be designated by appropriate signs.
Section 9~
Application of Regulations.
The provisions of this Ordinance prohibiting the standing
or parking of a motor vehicle shall apply at all times or at those
times herein specified or as indicated on official signs except when
it is necessary to stop a vehicle to avoid conflict with other
traffic or in compliance with the directions of a police officer
or official traffic-control device.

Residents
Jeffersonville
only will be allowed on the following

to Howard Avenue, south side
may obtain residential parking stickers from the
Police Department.
Any person receiving a citation as the result of a violation
of the provisions of this amendment shall be subject to the same
penalty set out in Section llA of Ordinance No. 80-0R-6.
Section 10.
Limited Parking in Designated ~reas.
The ~ommon Council by ordinance and the Board of Public Works
and Safety by resolution may limit parking at any time it is deemed
in the public interest on any s-reet, alley or thoroughfare or other
public place and such limitation shall become effective upon posting
of appropriate signs indicating such limitations.
Section 11.
Parking is hereby prohibited, effective upon the posting of
appropriate signs, on the North side of Market Street from Meigs
Avenue to Main Street from 7:00 o'clock A.M. until 9:00 o'clock
A.M. and from 2:00 o'clock P.M. until 4:00 ~!clock P.M., however
residents of this area may obtain a windshield sticker of permit
from the Chief of Police and upon displaying such sticker or permit
appropriately on their vehicle shall be permitted to park in the
limited area at any time.
Section llA.
Penalty ..
Any person receiving a citation as the result of a violation
of any of the provisions of this ordinance shall pay an assessment
of Five Dollars (excep as hereinafter provided) if paid within
72 hours of the time of such violation to the Clerk or officer
in charge at Jeffersonville Police Headquarters at the City County
Building, 519 East Court Avenue, however, if such violation is not
paid within 72 hours or if the violation is for usurping a parking
space provided for the handicapped, or if the violation is for
parking a semi-tra6tor trailer truck in a prohibited place then
each assessment shall be ten dollars. In the event any[,person
charged with a violation hereunder fails to pay as above provided
such person shall be charged in city court and upon conviction
shall be fined not less than twenty dollars nor more than one
hundred dollars.
Section 12.
Any ordinance or part thereof in conflict with this ordinance
is hereby repealed.
Section 13.
This ordinance shall become effective upon its passage, approval
and publication as required by statute.
