Dear Councilperson:
JEFF FIRE
PAGE
During the past several yem's, the ~effersonville Fire Department has been
actively involv~ in several community events. One of these major events is "Thunder
Over Louisville". The Firefighters provide not only fire service and inspections, but
most importantly emergency medical services. As you may be aware, this event does not
provide any funding for overtime, and these monies will be taken from the d~artments
normal operating budget.
Over the past several years, the Fire Departments number of incidents - fire,
rescue, E.M.S.- have at least doubl~, causing more on-job injuries. These injuries arc
mostly minor in nature, EXAMPLE: sprained or strained knees and aatdes, or worst
ease is knee operations. During the healing process which may take 3 to 6 months, this
also takes a toll on our overtime budget.
The Fire Departments overtime budget has not been increased in over D. years.
and we nexxl to address this issue soon. I would like to set up a meeting with you and
discuss this situation so the Emergency Services provided to this community by your
Firefighters will. not be jeopardized.
I am available to meet at your convenience, and look forward to discussing the
simple solutions~ so we can continue the quality of emergency service this community
deserves.
Yours In Safety
Chief Charles M, Smith
