HomeMy WebLinkAboutJFMC December 4, 2025 FIRE MERIT COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA Regular Meeting City Council Chambers December 4, 2025 CALL TO ORDER: The regular meeting for December 4, 2025, Fire Merit Commission was called to order by Commissioner McCormick at 6:00 P.M. ROLL CALL: The roll call was conducted and those present were Commissioners Troy McCormick, Donovan Sims, Sam Smith, Thomas Spalding and Missy Gibson-Scully, COMMISSION STAFF: Fire Merit Commission Counsel Zach Stewart, President Union Brad Tetley, Deputy Fire Chief Jason Sharp and Stenographer Cindy Seifert MINUTES: Commissioner Smith made the motion to approve the minutes from November 6, 2025, November 10, 2025, November 24, 2025, seconded by Commissioner Sims, passes on a vote of 5-0. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Commissioner McCormick made the motion to approve the Agenda, seconded by Commissioner Sims, passes on a vote of 5-0. CLAIMS: Attorney Stewart presented a claim in the amount of$2,637.50 for Zachary Stewart, Attorney, to be paid out of Legal Services,Commissioner Smith made the motion to approve the claims in the amount of$2,637.50, seconded by Commissioner Gibson-Scully, passes on a vote of 5-0. Attorney Stewart presented claims in the amount of $550.00, for Lori Fleeman, Court Reporter, for Hearing Transcription on November 10, 2025, and November 24, 2025, to by paid out of Legal Services, Commissioner McCormick made the motion to approve the claims in the amount of$550.00, seconded by Commissioner Sims, passes on a vote of 5-0. BUSINESS: EXPERIENCED APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY LIST/RULE CHANGE/POSTING NOTICE AND SCHEDULING HEARING Attorney Stewart advised that the City Council approved 2025-OR-53, with unanimous approval, the Ordinance approving the changes to the Fire Merit Commission rules. Commissioner McCormick requested an review of the request for the new commissioner. Attorney Stewart advised that the proposed rule change will allow for an experienced applicant list. This separate list will be used at the discretion of the administration, to speed up the process of getting newly hired firefighters to active work. Applicants with experience would have to choose which list they would like to submit their name, as they can only be added to one list. Commissioner Smith made the motion to authorize Attorney Stewart to notice the proposed changes and schedule a public hearing, seconded by Commissioner Sims, passes on a vote of 5-0. Page 1 of 2 ATTORNEY REPORT: No Report REPORT FROM LOCAL 558 UNION: Union President Tetley reminded the Commission of the Union Christmas Party on December 12, 2025, at 6pm. REPORT ADMINISTRATION: Deputy Chief Sharp wished all a Merry Christmas. FIRE MERIT COMMISSION COMMENTS: Commissioner McCormick wished all a Merry Christmas. ADJOURNMENT: With no further business before the Commission, Commissioner McCormick made the motion to ADJOURN, seconded by Commissioner Smith, passes on a vote of 5-0. Meeting adjourned at 6:16P.M.
